Can a Runnable with runOnUiThread or similar help here?

AFAIR if it called from UI thread it will call run method directly, because it's implementation is close to:

    public final void runOnUiThread(Runnable action) {
        if (Thread.currentThread() == mUiThread) {
            action.run();
        }
        ...
    }
