Facebook/Heroku sample app -- Ruby

This is a sample app showing use of the Facebook Graph API, written in Ruby, designed for deployment to Heroku.

Run locally

Install dependencies:

bundle install

Create an app on Facebook and set the Website URL to http://localhost:5000/.

Copy the App ID and Secret from the Facebook app settings page into your .env:

echo FACEBOOK_APP_ID=12345 >> .env
echo FACEBOOK_SECRET=abcde >> .env

Launch the app with Foreman:

foreman start

Deploy to Heroku via Facebook integration

The easiest way to deploy is to create an app on Facebook and click Cloud Services -> Get Started, then choose Ruby from the dropdown. You can then git clone the resulting app from Heroku.

Deploy to Heroku directly

If you prefer to deploy yourself, push this code to a new Heroku app on the Cedar stack, then copy the App ID and Secret into your config vars:

heroku create --stack cedar
git push heroku master
heroku config:add FACEBOOK_APP_ID=12345 FACEBOOK_SECRET=abcde

Enter the URL for your Heroku app into the Website URL section of the Facebook app settings page, then you can visit your app on the web.

facebook-template-ruby's Issues

The template remembers previous logged information

Using the current template, I observed 2 things

  1. if you logged in the apps, then when other visit the app next time your information still there
  2. When I used the template as canvas app, the login fuction did not work properly. and when I logged in the app was not in Facebook's iframe as it should be as canvas app.

Example for using 'authenticator.get_user_info_from_cookies'

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the Sinatra/Koala demo. I was wondering if someone could help me with a using the get_user_info_from_cookies method that the Koala OAuth object provides.

I want to be able to use the FB JS Api for user authentication initially (less forwarding around when its a FB Tab app),
Once I receive a response (via ajax) from the "FB.ui({method: "permissions.request" " call, I would like to hit an action on my server ("/vote/34" for example) and get the FB user object server-side without having to redirect again. Can this be done using the "get_user_info_from_cookies" method? If so can someone help by providing an example?

Thanks a lot!
