It's a great little script and still working now and easy to adapt, thanks for sharing with the community.
Two questions I had if anyone know this answers :
What is the frequency of refresh in the FindMy app on macOS ? I feel like I need to refresh it manually, and it does not really refresh in the background ... but I can't validate this
Is there a similar location on iPhone for the findMy history ? I read somewhere that the iPhone stores history as well but does not display it on the FindMy app.
Many thanks
Add something like
mkdir -p ~/Desktop/Airtags
to the beginning of the script
Hi trying to get this running in my WSL terminal using Ubuntu currently getting this error
jbmcnichol@DESKTOP-AGHPMOR:~/AirtagAlex$ ./AirtagAlex.sh
Creating a copy of Items.data to prevent potential file corruption
cp: cannot stat '/home/jbmcnichol/Library/Caches/com.apple.findmy.fmipcore/Items.data': No such file or directory
Failed to copy Items.data file. Please ensure Terminal has 'Full Disk Access' in the 'Privacy & Security' section in macOS Preferences
The resulting file shows the battery status column (batterystatus) twice. This caused an issue when I tried to import the data into a Google Maps layer.
If youre getting no results in the .csv file, try following these steps to grant access to Terminal https://osxdaily.com/2018/10/09/fix-operation-not-permitted-terminal-error-macos/.
Looks like macOS is now encrypting the file in 14.4 so it does not seem possible to get access to the Airtag location this way anymore.
Getting jq: parse error: Invalid numeric literal at line 1, column 24
when i run the script.
I'm unsure if the FindMy data has always been encrypted but when i open the file I'm now seeing:
{'signature': b"...", 'encryptedData': b'...'}
Was this always the contents of that file or have apple done somthing?
Hi,
Trying your script on the latest stable of Ventura, but the folder your script is trying to get the Items.data file from (~/Library/Caches/com.apple.findmy.fmipcore/Items.data) isn't available under Ventura 13.1.
Any idea?
