remittances's Issues

Two versions for details.remittances.title

details.remittances.title should be different for total view and country view.

the text "von Migranten in ihre Heimat gesendet" fits perfect for the total view, but could be misunderstood in the single country view (as remittance outflows of the selected country)

for the single country view, details.remittances.title should be something like "von Migranten erhalten"

Use singular in German version

added this to the messages.json

"amount.billions.singular" : "{0} Milliarde",
"amount.millions.singular" : "{0} Million",

Time-Slider

As far as I can see, the slider behaves differently in Firefox than in Chrome and Safari.

In Chrome and Safari, you have to point and drag the slider. In Firefox, it slides right and left whenever you move your cursor over it. Is that a Firefox-specific behaviour or can we apply it to the other browsers as well? The Firefox version makes it much easier for users to understand how to user the slider.

Maybe we should not block the user input in the "intro mode"

It might be better for the user if we make it possible to interact with the vis already while the user looks through the guiding slides. So the input would not be blocked as it is now. But it would be possible to move the slide on the side, so it does not cover anything, and bring it back anytime.

This way it can be more engaging, because the user would starts to play with the visualization already in the first slide. And we would then need only one "Play" button. Now it's confusing with the many buttons.

What do you think?

Info to be displayed when country is selected

If a country is selected, hovering over another country should show how many emigrations of the selected country are in that country (absolute number and % of all emigrations of the selected country).

Legend for migrant colours

I think we need to add a small legend to indicate what the colours mean. My suggestion as to where to place it:

Big black space when intro is closed

once the intro is closed, we have a big black space on the left (because we moved the numbers panel to the right). how about moving the numbers panel to the left once the intro is closed?

Intro bugs

Firefox: all fine
Chrome: transition from slide 2 to 3 not possible
Safari: all transitions work, but text not displayed (only buttons)

all tested on mac osx 10.8.2.

Initial state of app

I think we should add a slide before the current first one that gives a brief general intro to the topic and asks the user to launch the intro. When the user clicks on launch, the now first slide appears and the animation starts. What do you think, @ilyabo?
