imaginary.os's Issues

Support running on a screen connected to a notebook

On the IMAGINARY exhibition at ICM 2018 the touchscreens were running connected to notebook computers via HDMI. We plugged in the IMAGINARY OS USB drive on one to try to fix an issue and nothing came up on the large screen after booting. A guy there went to the Ubuntu screen setup and was able to add an external screen and set it up as primary, which fixed it... but I understand that would have been lost upon reboot.

If possible it would be good to better support this kind of setup.

Add a regular browser

On ICM 2018 at some point we needed to use a regular browser from IMAGINARY OS (not for running an exhibit, but to activate WiFi through a captive portal and also for downloading a manual or something for troubleshooting) and we didn't have one easily available.

Firefox supports something called "Profiles" (each Profile can have different settings and extensions). When launching FF through the CLI you can specify which profile you want to use. I recommend creating a "Kiosk" profile with the Kiosk settings and leaving Firefox with default settings for anything that might come up...

... sometimes we're the users of IMAGINARY OS and we should have all the basic tools to quickly solve issues on-site.

Wrong handling of touches

On some touchscreens (HID?) Kiosk Web Browser seems to miss-handle touch events when running the following web applications:

  • Match The Net
  • Qi
  • MM

Also Snapshot Slider seems to have the same issue.

note: Firefox seems to handle them properly...

Add an indication of which version of IMAGINARY OS is running

It should be very easy to find out which version of IMAGINARY OS is running from inside it. e.g. a version number in the wallpaper.

If there's already a mechanism consider if it's super obvious and easy to find with no knowledge of where it is, and close this issue.
