ryzen-7000-series-proxmox's Issues

Doesn't seem to work for 7950x3d on PVE 7.4-3

I followed the instruction to implement iGPU passthrough on Ubuntu 22.04 with a 7950x3d CPU.

Regardless of the Machine and BIOS combinations I will get "amdgpu: Unable to locate a BIOS ROM" (after extracting and also trying the one in the repo)
And depending on the settings I will also get "Invalid PCI ROM header signature: expecting 0xaa55, got 0x4556"

Perhaps it is this problem: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/amd-gpu-firmware-bios-missing-amdgpu-fatal-error.134739/
but I can't implement that fix because Asrock doesn't have a supporting beta bios version for B650D4U-2L2T/BCM as far as I can tell

Windows 10 VM fails to boot and hangs with maxing 1 cpu

I have a UM780 and followed the guide to get things up and running. Windows 10 and drivers installed fine with the GPU passthrough'd and accessible. Things boot up fine and works with the default VNC and SPICE connection methods.

The problem arises when I try to follow the instructions for setting display with none. I tried to the set the display to none and check the primary GPU box. However, when I go to boot the VM it would always hang with stressing what I think is 1 cpu (i.e. stuck at 8% with 12 cpu or 10% with 10 cpus) with " IPs Guest Agent not running" on the summary screen.

I cannot locate any errors from the places that I know of. When I go to click start task on task logs it says:
"swtpm_setup: Not overwriting existing state file.
TASK OK"

Any help is greatly appreciated and I would be happy to provide any logs provided that I can find them. Thanks!

GPU Partitioning

I don't have an issue per se but more of a question regarding this project.

I've been thinking of picking up one of the Beelink or Minisforum machines that have one of the iGPUs listed on this project and was wondering if you've been able to get GPU Partitioning to work on those iGPUs as well?

I know this project allows for GPU passthrough (GPU assigned to only 1 VM), but is it also possible to have the iGPU partitioned to work for multiple VMs or even shared between the host and a VM? I know that is technically possible with NVIDIA dGPUs and Intel iGPUs, but I haven't been able to find more info on these specific AMD iGPUs.

Thanks!

[Question] RadeonResetBugFix does it work in this setup?

Hi,

In the tutorial from the repository it is written under chapter Configuring the GPU in the Windows VM under step 9 "Install [RadeonResetBugFix] service".
Later on it is written we should put our Display to none, but in the description from RadeonResetBugFix it is written we need to have at least one additional Display device for the service to work.
Does the RadeonResetBugFix work for you guys in this setup?
I have AMD 5600G where I was able to do passthrough and all seems to work, the only problem is that I experience RadeonResetBug and RadeonResetBugFix is not working for me.
If I put Display to anything else except "none" my display will not be on the monitor, but if I put it to "none" then I have the picture but RadeonResetBugFix is not working then and I cannot reboot VM without rebooting the machine.
I tried changing Primary GPU setting but this did not help.

Has anyone experience the same issue or does RadeonResetBugFix service on the guest work for you?

I am using:
win10 Guest
Proxmox 8.2.x
SeaBios
P35-8.1
5600G without any other GPU expect iGPU

Thanks

Any idea if this works with or without a screen attached to the GPU?

I've worked with dedicated consumer-grade GPU passthrough and so far all GPUs I had gotten to work (nVidia 20xx, 30xx, AMD 6600) required a display attached, otherwise they go into inactive state. Any idea on how these iGPUs behave here? I don't see displays mentioned anywhere.

I tried to do passthrough on 7950X3D before but ended up with code 43, which so far was an indication that a display (e.g. display simulator) needs attaching. At that point I was unable to attach anything, so I gave up under these assumptions. No mention of this in here makes me hopeful, but my experience says it is false hope.

Could someone share their experience and/or update the doc to specifically mention if this works without display and on which boards? It is getting kinda complicated out there.

UM 790 pro: Need to reaboot each time to have it working

I have the same Setup on ubuntu 24.04
The only CPU configuration that worked for me is hypervisor default, which is qemu64

I can get the VM to use amd gpu after boot.. If I restart the VM, it will stop using the amd gpu and I have error 43
Basically I need to restart the computer each time that I need the passthrough to the amd gpu.

Has anyone find a solution for this "error 43" problem.

Ryzen 7745hx with 610M iGPU host system don't see GPU

I have Proxmox 8.1 and kernel 6.5.-13. AMD 7745hx with iGPU 610M
PCI passthrough don't crash my host or VM, but I still don't get any gpu in windows 10. AMD drivers down't detect it. So with bypass igpu with audio I get is a failed default MS driver (error 43 and sometimes 31), and no GPU in OS so far. Errors dissapear after host reboot (AMD reset service active, but sometimes don't work), but GPU don't appear anyway. I'm open to suggestions.

Vbios I get from my current 610M iGPU.

5800H

Pretty new to this party, but can I use the 5700U vbios with my 5800H APU?

[Addition] The vbios for 7950X also works for 7900X

Hey - thanks for hosting the repository. Worked flawlessly on my Ubuntu VM, through Unraid.

I just wanted to add, that the vbios_7950x.bin also works for the AMD 7900X CPU, as they both share the same iGPU (Raphael).
I tested it with both Plex and Immich on my AMD 7900X, and both use the iGPU automatically, using the vbios for 7950X.

Thought it would make sense to add that it also works for 7900X to the readme/description

Thanks

GMKTEC M5 PRO - Problem with igpu | Ryzen 5700U

Hi I have a GMKTEC M5 PRO with bios version v1.0.3
I have tested with a colleague from the forum https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/amd-ryzen-5700u-7735hs-igpu-passthrough-windows-11.142811/#post-657616 all possible solutions, from windows 11 to windows 10 and seabios and OVMF.
We are running out of ideas, we did a Proxmox format and still nothing.
My processor is a Ryzen 5700U with IOMMU and SR-IOV enabled in the bios and this is my configuration does anyone know how to fix the problem?
the Radeon Windows driver installs OK
the problem is that the GPU is not outputing any display to the monitor from Windows
it's still showing the display output from the Proxmox OS
Let me add right away that I tried adding just the drivers and the full installation :)

Repo Steps

First, fantastic walkthrough, worked perfectly for the Beelink GTR 7 Pro 7940HS.

For the current Proxmox 8 ISO (proxmox-ve_8.0-2.iso), the repo is now bookworm, so the line
echo "deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bullseye pve-no-subscription" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve.list
should be
echo "deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bookworm pve-no-subscription" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve.list

Also, the ceph enterprise repo is present and needs to be disabled:
mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ceph.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ceph.list.orig

Questions related to AMD Reset Bug, GMKTEC M5 PRO, iommu groups

Hi first of all great turotial and great job. I finally manage to shared the igpu to my vm, but I got some questions to ge cleared out. Before that here is my setup details

Host

Hardware: GMKTEC M5 PRO
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics
GPU: Radeon Graphics iGPU
RAM: 64GB DDR4 3200Mhz
OS: Proxmox VE

Guest

Processors: 4 (1 sockets, 4 cores) [host]
Machine: q35
BIOS: OVMF (UEFI)
DISPLAY: Default
PCI Device (hostpci0): 0000:05:00.1,pcie=1,romfile=vbios_5700U.bin
PCI Device (hostpci1): 0000:05:00.0,pcie=1,romfile=AMDGopDriver_5700U.rom
OS: Debian 12

From the VM i can see that the iGPU is passed and Debian got it with the drivers (sudo apt install firmware-amd-graphics). Now I got some questions to be clarified.

Questions

  1. Do i need to install AMD Reset Bug Fix for Linux too? I think not
  2. If i am not wrong the iGPU is a full passthrough which means the host will have no display output after boot right? I think yes
  3. For the Guest VM getting the iGPU should i keep the DISPLAY: Default as it is or something else? This i have no idea
  4. Is it necessary to to passthrough the Audio device too? I see that the iGPU and Audio are two different iommu groups.

Can see a 'failed to read VFCT body' and 'failed to dump vbios' errors.

Any help would be appreciated.

Documentation Request for non-Windows Configurations

Could we get some extended documentation about configuring GPU Passthrough to non-Windows VMs, Docker, or LXC in the README? Or are there no real additional steps that need to be taken? For whatever it is worth, I've got a Beelink GTR-7 (R7 7840HS/Radeon 780M). Ideally looking at doing GPU passthrough for Scripted and JellyFin/Plex.

Thanks!

vBIOS CRC different for Ryzen 7 7735HS | Beelink SER 6 Pro

Hi - thanks for your guide, it was really helpful in getting it PCI passthrough working under proxmox 8.1.3 on a Beelink SER 6 Pro

I opened this issue as I noticed that the vbios I extract for the 680m had a different CRC compared to the provided ones.

I didn't detect any issues using the provied vbios versus my own extracted vbios, however I also haven't done as much testing, including no specific tests under windows.

I have attached my own extracted vbios for comparison
