spark-lab-1-building-a-word-count-application icon spark-lab-1-building-a-word-count-application

This lab will build on the techniques covered in the Spark tutorial to develop a simple word count application. The volume of unstructured text in existence is growing dramatically, and Spark is an excellent tool for analyzing this type of data. In this lab, we will write code that calculates the most common words in the Complete Works of William Shakespeare retrieved from Project Gutenberg. This could also be scaled to find the most common words on the Internet.

sql-bcit-projects icon sql-bcit-projects

These are two SQL projects I completed using SQL Server 2012. The first project was a group project in which we transformed complex business requirements into a fully normalized (3NF) and functional database. For this fictional Alumni Database system, we submitted a paper, an ERD created with Microsoft Visio, and sample reports drawn from the SQL Server database. The individual project involved creating a final script that creates a new Customer Orders database from scratch and reproduces queries, views, triggers, and stored procedures. I received an A mark in this course overall and one of a few students to receive over 90% on the midterm exam.
