My understanding of JSON SPEC is that it should not be possible to implicitly create relationship objects.

POST must contain single primary resource.

In case you need to provide parent/child relationship:

• you need to create parent first
• create children and add relationship to created parent

I was rereading the spec this morning and it does say that relationships should be identifiers only. The spec describes this in a request style at http://jsonapi.org/format/#document-compound-documents

One way to do this within the spec for creation might be to have client generated IDs for the child resources and push them up as included objects to be linked up. I haven't seen anything yet that says this can't be done. It does follow the requirement that there be one primary resource. I will follow this path with the API design for now. Thanks for the clarification on the spec.
