compile time optimization

Use -O2 and -funroll-loops to optimize source code and yield better performance.

• For example:

CC=g++
CFLAGS=-std=c++17 -O2 -Wall -funroll-loops

$(CC) -o [binary] [program.cpp] $(CFLAGS)

I/O bottlenecks optimization

You have two options for I/O: stdio and stdio

• STL sync with standard I/O:

// add this line at the beginning of the "program"
std::ios_base::sync_with_stdio(false);
// then use cin/cout as usual
std::cin >> ...;
std::cout << ...;

• Use standard I/O only:

#include <stdio.h>
int printf ( const char * format, ... );
int scanf ( const char * format, ... );

Restructure class/structure fields order

Under Linux systems, memory alignment is usually 4 bytes. While using class or structure, be careful about the order you initialize.

• For example, instead of using

struct alignment {
    char a;
    int b;
    short c;
};

, which takes 12B.

• You should use

struct alignment {
    char a;
    short c;
    int b;
};

, which takes only 8B.
