I don't know if you are interested in fixing this. I like your quake 2 cient, however it constantly segfaults over several linux distros. Currently running Kubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

It ran well over two previous maps then boom. Has done it with Slackware, Debian, and Centos as well.
Running on:
Xeon W3550 and GTX660 with 8 gigs ecc ram.
Maybe it's my machine? All other Q2 clients run ok on it.
Thanks,
Hi!
Is it possible to play original game with a soundtrack?
I do have a steam version, original cd iso and your engine is running on my mac computer.
Thank you in advance!
There is no sky, a map becomes a sky, messy stuff, set sky something doesnt work either. Changing gl_clear 1 makes it red/orange.
In full screen it's not even possible to quit the game ("y" key) or switch the language/switch to another mac application.
Possible fix would be to set any english/latin keyboard input language on start by default.
Not really a problematic issue but... r_drawworld 0 doesn't draw the world, OK that's fine, but then it also redisplays the items and the menu repeatedly in reverse, really weird. I don't understand why. How to fix that (guidances on where to hack the C code would be welcome)? Thanks!

I get this error when I run make and I can't figure out what to do. I tried removing "-DCD_AUDIO" from CFLAGS in the Makefile, but I still get the same error.
Solved: Seems like I had some remnant files left after removing the flag. By removing the entire folder and then removing the flag I was able to compile.
I downloaded the .dmg and instal quake 2 app. Then I put PAK0.PAK in ~/.quake2/baseq2. When I start the game from the app, I get the console. How do I start the game from here?
This is my directory structure:
.quake2/
└── baseq2
├── PAK0.PAK
├── aprconfig.cfg
└── save
└── current
I'm new to Github.
I've downloaded Quake 2.
Don't ask me why, but the first thing I did was run the Makefile.
Terminal came up saying apps didn't get permission. I quit Terminal after 10 seconds, thinking it was weird.
Suddenly many Applications on my mac High Sierra 10.13.6 got removed!!
Not so happy right now. Please tell me how this is possible.
It would be good to mention in the README that libjpeg62
(system package) should be installed before using this. (The game will not launch without it.)
Also, the game will not run unless share/libGL.so
exists. Making this a symlink to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1
is 100% functional.
Is there any music support?
I moved the OGG "music" folder inside baseq2 and in the root but it doesn't work.
When running the command:
./data/install-data.py
I am getting error:
rsync: failed to connect to quake2world.net (129.121.33.21): Connection refused (61)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(127) [Receiver=3.1.3]
Any suggestions? It looks like quake2world.net isn't Quake 2 related anymore...
I just upgraded to High Sierra and my previously working version of Quake II was no longer playable and would hang once loaded and displaying the console.
So I downloaded a fresh copy of master
hoping I could compile a new version and get that running.
I ran make
and received this error:

Any idea how to get it to compile correctly?
Says package is damaged
The Quake 2 configuration file (in linux it's at ~/.quake2/baseq2) is named as aprconfig.cfg
. I think it should be renamed as well.
When running on an iMac, adding entries to the server address book don't seem to persist after exiting the game. Not a huge issue, more so curious if this is an isolated issue.
How does one install HD models and textures? Placing folders within [QuakeII.app/Contents/Resources/baseq2/] does not seem to work.
We are trying to fire up a simple LAN party playing Quake2 and whenever I try to start a multiplayer server, the app crashes. Any ideas?
There's no option for playing cd audio in my compiled version (last revision I presume). I see that in the code there is a CD_AUDIO conditional macro all over the code. But I don't know where to enable it. I suppose I need to add a #define CD_AUDIO
in some file, but I don't know which. Or do I need to pass that in the make command line?
Starts up okay, but when I try to start a new game it simply crashes. I'm on OS X Catalina. Single display, OpenGL driver.

I just upgraded to macOS High Sierra and when I open Quake it drops me to the console and is unresponsive to any keyboard input.
I did a clean install by compiling Quake using the make
and make install
commands. Everything succeeded and I was able to open Quake just fine. Then I changed my video settings in the game to "Custom" and enabled fullscreen and saved my changes. When the game reloaded with the new settings the keyboard was unresponsive and I couldn't bring up any menu or enter any commands.
I deleted my existing install of Quake and reinstalled so I could go back through the process and troubleshoot what was going on. This time I changed my video settings to "Custom" and left fullscreen disabled and saved the changes. The game reloaded and everything was working correctly. I was able to launch the single player and play just fine. Then I tried the fullscreen option again and once that was enabled and the game reloaded the keyboard was again unresponsive.
I'd be happy to do some more troubleshooting if anyone has something I could try to do to fix this. Not sure what else to try at the moment.
