A comment for Jiggle on Gnome Extension Store by SteveGoodenough read:

As a workaround for 43 you can

  • disable version check in gnome extensions (temp) with gsettings set org.gnome.shell disable-extension-version-validation true
  • install jiggle
  • edit ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/[email protected]/metadata.json and add 43.1 to the version list
  • re-enable version check in gnome extensions (temp) with gsettings set org.gnome.shell disable-extension-version-validation false
I'm hoping the dev picks up the PR to add support for 43 as it works fine

I just gave it a try, and everything seems working fine. Please add support for Gnome 43~44! šŸ„ŗ

Given that the project has been abandoned, do anyone have the technical insight to understand the specific circumstances in Gnome 44+ that breaks this plugin, even with version checks disabled?

If I knew what to go for, then I'd be happy to fork the project and make the changes myself.

Gnome 44 has been out for a very long time. Has the developer abandoned the project?

What are some good alternatives to this extension?

This looks like exactly what I need - I am particularly interested in the 'spotlight' option, if it works as I think it must it would be brilliant (if you'll pardon the expression) - but it does nothing on my gnome 44.1 even when version checking is disabled.

Doesn't seem to work as well on GNOME 45.0. it had passed over 5 different versions of gnome already.. it is safe to assume that this project has been abandoned...
