Example given is deliberately narrow. My suspicion with these was that the width of line was small enough that it was hitting the limits of the position granularity, but with a width which is clearly greater than 1/373 in a rendering area of at least 800px@2x that clearly shouldn't be the case.

I don't know why that first line (putting aside the fact that it's skewed) isn't straight.

Diagnosis on that: it was actually pinning the "bottom" of the line incorrectly; each line has an adjacent 0-frequency line (for the other views), so the hits run down to the "bottom" point, and the adjacent zeroes run down from the "bottom" point.
The "bottom" was of course y=0.
