Installation

Linux

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/JMcKiern/dotfiles/master/install.sh -o install.sh && chmod +x install.sh && ./install.sh

Windows

Run in elevated PowerShell

Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force; [System.Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol = [System.Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol -bor 3072; iex ((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://raw.githubusercontent.com/JMcKiern/dotfiles/master/install.ps1'))

Windows Setup

• Vim & gVim
  choco install vim --params "'/NoDesktopShortcuts /NoDefaultVimrc'"
  • Get dotfile and link it to make committing changes easier
    • New-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Path ~ -Name .vimrc -Value "~/Documents/GitHub/dotfiles/.vimrc"
  • Auto install vim.plug
  • Install plugins
  • Add to PATH
• ctags
  • Download and install to PATH
• Git for Windows
  • Change git commandline to call correct vim
    git config --global core.editor "'$(Get-Command vim | % { $_.Source -replace '\\', '/'})'"
• Chrome (chromium?)
  • .md compiler
    • Add to PATH for vim markdown open
  • vimium/SurfingKeys
  • ublock origin
  • For all extensions:
    • Allow in incognito
    • Allow access to file URLs
• Install 7zip
• Chocolatey
• Install a terminal?
  • Microsoft windows terminal
  • Cmder
  • ConEmu
  • with WSL
  • Terminus
• Powerline fonts
• Add relevant programs to taskbar
• Set default programs for file types

Italics cut off on Windows

This is a font bug. Just change to something else for example:

vim: to add

ctrlP
make usable for ide
-> run python script (but do it in another process so vim isn't stalled)

Add autoload scripts for Linux and Windows

Setup from scratch

install git, curl, vim, g++, ranger
download .vimrc ( wget -O ~/.vimrc https://raw.githubusercontent.com/JMcKiern/dotfiles/master/.vimrc )
