Start looking at the Content Search API

The Campus Publications website currently uses an XTF backend for returning highlighted search results. We would like to transition sites like this to use the IIIF Content Search API for search result highlighting.

Ocracoke implements API in Ruby, however we would like an implementation of the API using Python and Marklogic.

In the code for the Campus Publications site, look at search/index.php. That file shows how URL parameters can be constructed to query the XTF backend. You can get the endpoint for our current XTF backend from the config.php file in the Campus Publications code.

In the future we will replace the PHP code that currently renders the Campus Publications site with Python, and we will replace the current XTF backend with MarkLogic. Start getting a sense of how we could write a prototype content search API service using Python and Marklogic.
