(tag.text || "").trim is not a function

I have a Glimmer component following the format presented in the README but would hit this error on the parser:
(tag.text || "").trim is not a function

Logging what my tag looked like, I see why as I'm getting a:

{ name: 'defaultValue', text: [ { text: '`medium`', kind: 'text' } ] }

Swapping it to (tag.text[0].text || '').trim(); works as expected, but I'm curious as to why my TS file gets read differently, or if there's a way to account for something like this, if it's not uncommon?
