This would technically be an issue with our Markdown parser, Parsedown. Without looking into their parser, we really cant do much on this at the moment :(

Would it be possible and does it make sense to extend the Parsedown class and add functionality for auto-linking URLs and references? erusev/parsedown-extra does something similar I think.

Yeah, it would take a Parsedown extension. I think we should be careful about how we write it though, ideally we want it to remain pretty open to over extensions (so that we can get 'Daux-flavoured markdown' where you can link to other documents and make images easier and stuff). I think it should be either a new project or a new issue though.

We are moving to CommonMark and github issue linking is not supported out of the box, however, now you can extend Daux.io with Processors, this is ready in the development branch and will be merged in master very soon
