atlantgis's Issues

Metadata

As AtlantGIS is a collection of faked geodata the issue of providing proper metadata (esp. descriptive) is crucial. Several datasets relate to real world archetypes; others are identical information available in different formats.
It would contradict the idea of AtlantGIS to enforce a common metadata policy. In fact, providing proper metadata with common FOSSGIS tools is not easy and too many metadata-models are available.
This issue serves two objectives:

  • discussing ways to create metadata
  • as a reminder to provide metadata

Citation

I am using your dataset for a Research School in October. Thanks a lot for the data!

I am wondering how to cite your repository correctly...

Until now it looks like this:

K.-Ch. Bruhn, D. Seidensticker & C. Schmid: AtlantGIS (2017 GitHub Repository (https://github.com/kacebe/AtlantGIS))

Are you ok with it, or should I change something?

What about a zenodo release?

more raster data

I'm currently in the field in Poland and played around with 3d visualization of raster data (DEM, orthophoto, geomagnetic, etc.) with the R package rgl. To share my code on stackoverflow I wanted to use the AtlantGIS example datasets. Unfortunately the DEM in the area of the fake geomagentic diagram is fairly boring and an orthophoto is not available.

I suggest to add an artificial area dataset (3-4ha) on Atlantis with:

  • a fake high resolution DEM (simulating lidar or SFM data) with an interesting, meaningful relief
  • a fake orthophoto
  • a meaningful geomagnetic diagram

The constructed example feature could be a destroyed burial mound. A structure like this with a stone foundation could be partially visible in all three of the above mentioned raster datasets. It's quite easy to construct an artificial DEM and for the geomagnetic diagram we could use modified real world data. No idea how to construct a good orthophoto though.

@kacebe What do you think? This is just an idea - I'm not even sure whether it fits into AtlantGIS. I guess you also had plans to add more raster data?

Binary data

I'll start moving binary data from the github-repository to https://zenodo.org/
This issue is collecting original file-name and location in the repository with its counterpart doi in the zenodo-archive.
