Netty 4.1.98+ is broken on 1.20.5/6 and up

When updating the Netty library from the bundled 4.1.97 version to 4.1.98 or higher, Opening any worlds in 1.20.5/6 and above will cause connectivity to immediately drop regardless of singleplayer with an error message saying that 14 bytes extra in minecraft:custom_payload packet was found - This issue does not occur when going back to 1.20.4 and older.

Right now; This project will need to stay on 1.20.4 to even make use of Netty properly which is ugly in comparison - Hence why two branches exist at the moment. One being the "stable" branch which targets 1.20.4 and also contains the Netty patch and "canary" branch being 1.20.5/6 (at time of writing this) that lacks the Netty patch.

As for Mojang, They have decided to reject my mojira issue as they claimed it's not a valid bug report which is false. Therefore this issue is marked as "Help Wanted" as i have no idea how to resolve this on my own.

how do i change minecraft version

I know that may sound kinda silly but how do I change minecraft version i'm stuck at 1.20.4 but there's almost none neoforge documantion for that version.
