scalingedittool's Introduction

Scaling Edit Tool

Custom editing tool extension for RoboFont editor

Scaling Edit Tool for RoboFont is a mouse and keyboard controlled version of what are better known as Interpolated Nudge tools, made famous by Christian Robertson. When moving oncurve points, offcurve points are scaled in relation to neighboring oncurve points.

The tool works on both bicubic and quadratic bezier curves, and open and closed contours. All the built-in Edit Tool functionality should work as expected.

Angles of offcurve points are retained by default. Command-key overrides the angle keeping when mouse is down. In contextual menu (right mouse click) you can choose whether or not smooth and non-selected points are affected by the override. Simplified mode offers a more traditional operation without angle keeping.

scalingedittool's Issues

making scalingEditTool the default one

by setting setActiveEventTool('ScalingEditTool') you activate the tool as default one when a glyph window the first time pops up. This could be confusing for users.

https://github.com/klaavo/scalingEditTool/blob/master/ScalingEditTool.roboFontExt/lib/scalingEditToolExt.py#L229

and this is brought up a small ui bug in RF :) as the segmented toolbar control didnt show the correct active tool.

maybe reconsider to call setActiveEventTool while initiating the tool

thanks

Click not executing in Robofont 3.1

ScalingEditTool doesn't seem to be initializing in Robofont 3.1. When I click on the scale edit tool, left-click doesn't initialize/doesn't allow any selecting of handles or anchor points.

Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, restarting software, and restarting computer.

Performance in RF4 beta

Some small issues show up when using Scale Edit Tool in the current RF4 beta.

  • Crosshairs don't show up when you drag a point
  • Transform command doesn't bring up bounding box

Handle being retracted when I move on-curve

There seems to be a new issue with handles sometimes unexpectedly snapping back to the position of their respective on-curve, when some on-curves are moved.

Here's a screencap of what's happening, and a test UFO. Check out the right off-curve on the top. Occurs when I move the top or right on-curve.
