I've just changed the code to spawn the settings dialog in a new process. That solved the problem.

Tested it only under windows thought.
Not absolutely sure that my problem was the samen though. In my case sfact would just hang if I try to open the settings dialog more than one time (i.e. open, close, try to open again and it hangs). Whatever it is, starting it in a separate process should help too.

The issue with subprocess is that it depends on sys.executable being python, which will not work with precompiled versions. It also doesn't close the process ever, leading to memory leaks. I'll try it out on other OSs, as it's a better solution than the current situation

I've tested on Ubuntu as well, and it seems to work okay. Apparently skeinforge DOES exit cleanly if it's its own process. I don't understand why, but I certainly am happy. I merged your fix. Thank you very much!
