I've just come across this repository. It seems like I am working on the same thing in https://github.com/muodov/kociemba. Check it out, it contains pure-C and pure-Python ports of the same Java package. As far as I can see, feature-wise our implementations are pretty much the same except that I also made Python bindings and there is a pull-request pending for "solve-to-pattern" feature from @ansiwen.

I just wanted to let you know about kociemba project since it is virtually the same that yours (as for now).
