nullptr or garbage value to begin with

As of now you only have nullptrs to describe end, and when empty also begin. Some guides suggest starting the structure off with a node that holds junk values, and therefore none of the iterators would ever hold nullptrs, and thus would solve a lot of complexity to take care of it, and thus making it more efficient. Would love some advice on this matter.

prevIndex value in iterators?

is the prevIndex truly necessary? As of now, the only iterator available is a forwards iterator, in which case you can probably get rid of the index value, strictly using the findNextValid method for knowing what to go to next.
