Android String XML-CSV Converter

Status

I have written a better library to handle conversion between CSV and XML and back using SQLite and OpenCSV. It enables users to translate even more words and less prone to errors.

What does it do?

It will convert strings.xml, arrays.xml, plurals.xml

to CSV

and back!

Why?

You want to translate strings, arrays, plurals in strings.xml, arrays.xml, and plurals.xml into different languages in csv so you can use as spreadsheet in Excel, Google Drive

Requirement

Java JRE 8 or Jetbrains IDE

How to use it?

Download the file
- groovy-app.zip
- groovy-app.tar
Unzip or untar the file
Open groovy-app/bin/groovy-app (groovy-app.bat if you are on Windows)
From here, with the GUI onwards it's pretty self explanatory. Select Android folder for the value and the location of your saved csv.

Download and install the IntelliJ or Android Studio Plugin from the jetbrains repository or here

It doesn't work

Hi. My Android Studio version is 2.3.3, and I searched the plugin in the Settings --> Plugins of AS. I installed the plugin successfully, but when I ran it, I found it didn't work. The .csv file had been generated , but the file only had a "name" on the first blank and nothing else. Please tell me how to solve the problem, ths a ot.

Not working

Only shows headers in every column. Neither plugin or the standalone app works.

CSV to XML conversion may fail with a success message

I see no content being generated in my XML files even though I get a Success message.

@@ in strings

All ',' are replaced with '@@' during conversion to CSV, but never replaced back to ',' in the resulting CSV file.

Whats are these errors?

Also what is the correct way to save the spreadsheet as a csv? I'm using , as a cell delimiter & " as a space delimiter, saving it with UTF-8 encoding using LibreOffice on Mac Os X

Can't select xml file while converting XML to CSV

Hi there,

I downloaded and launched the app. However I couldn't pick the android resource file as described. I tried to force it by using absolute path to my file without success.

Let me know if I missed something

Thanks for the plugin.
Any plans to support comments? It would be great to have both full-line comments and end of the line comments.
End-line comments could go to a specific string, as a separate column - to provide some tips and context for translation.
Full-line comments could help separate sections in the strings files

plurals.csv is empty

There are only headers.

My plurals.xml is as follows:

Russian is not supported

I tried to convert my xml files to csv. However, instead of Russian text I got some kind of doodles.

many issues with mutated vowel, false columns

-Unfortunately, mutated vowel are not exported correctly (ä,ü,ö,ect..).
-some translations are not exported to the correct column (in my case italian and france)
-columns that do not actually exist
unfortunately not usable for me

Destination path defaults to root

Just a minor issue, but when hitting "OK" in the XML to CSV tab without providing a destination path the parser run without a warning and uses root as the destination path.
