lifescope-site's Issues

Signup - clarify or refactor the 'Sign up twice' issue

Current behavior:

  • Go to LifeScope.io. Sounds interesting, click 'Sign Up' link on the top right.
  • Get taken to https://lifescope.io/signup
    • Minor issue: since First name and Last name fields are horizontally arranged, the 'required' asterisk is only by the First name field, making it look like only the first name is required, whereas both of them are. (Also, does last name need to be required?)
  • Fill out name, email, click Terms & conditions checkbox, click Continue
  • Get taken to https://app.lifescope.io/ (with the logo and a 'Sign Up' / 'Log In' buttons).

So, first question encountered by the user - I thought I just signed up? Why another Sign Up button?

  • Click 'Sign Up' again. Now get taken to https://app.lifescope.io/signup page, choice of 'Email' or 'Social' signup options.
  • Select 'Email' option, enter email, get 'Check your email for a link to complete the signup process.' response.
  • Go to Email inbox, find email, click on the Confirm link in the signup email.
    • Btw, the link expires in 10 minutes - that is WAY too short. What's the threat model here?
  • Clicking on the confirm link in email takes you to https://app.lifescope.io/providers page.

Second thought - the confirm signup linking taking you to the Providers page (with a model popup explaining Connections) is a bit confusing. Would it make sense to display at least a success message? Like, welcome to your account, now let's get you connected with existing accounts, or something?

  • Four step modal wizard. Exiting the wizard, I'm left with the provider selection screen.
  • It's not clear whether I'm signed up or logged in (no username, email or icon appears in the usual top right).

Suggestions

  1. Consider either collapsing the 'sign up for newsletter' and 'sign up for app' steps into one OR making them two separate buttons. One after another is confusing.
  2. Display a success message from the email confirmation step.
  3. Display at least the email (and consider checking for a Gravatar icon for that email, if you don't already) in the top right, so the user knows they've signed up.
  4. Consider an intermediate step on confirmation - explain that account is created, and now you can connect providers and import existing data. (and preferably explain why that's cool/useful).
