GSOC : Long Running Ruby and Rails Benchmarks Project

This is Saurabh Shah, sophomore in Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Gandhinagar, India. I am quite familiar with ruby, ruby on rails, C, java and javascript languages. My search for a GSOC organization led me to this organization. I have been contributing to open source lately in ruby language and following the rails github issues/pull requests for quite sometime.

I went through the project ideas of GSOC 2016. I am quite interested to work in "Long Running Ruby and Rails Benchmarks". I glanced through PyPy Speed Center to understand how it works and how it is implemented. They have analyzed the performances over time and tracked the changes in their development pretty well. They have many different set of benchmarks to analyze their interpreter's performance and improve it over cpython.

Compared to python, Ruby benchmarks is currently in its early stages. Many more improvements can be made providing all the graphical analysis and comparing performances between different commits and releases.

This project will surely require a lot more understanding and a deeper insight. It would be best if you could suggest me some good links and references which will help me comprehend this project in a better way.

Looking forward to contribute.

Get to know rails Rails ?

Hi,
Do you have some advices how to understand Rails behind scenes, to get great understanding how everything works? There are a lot of things happening in code and I feel every time I try to understand one part of the framework I always drift in land of unknown :)

How did you get started contributing to rails?

Hi maclover7, saw your contribution in the rails weekly newsletter...just wondering - how did you get started contributing to rails? Just built a lot of apps and ran into thorny problems? Interested in your telling of the story as it were...

Thanks!

Can you help me with Trix?

I am using your Trix gem. I have done everything you recommend to get it to work. It does work correctly in development but when I go to production on Heroku the Trix text box just shows up as a little square that cannot be edited. I would post code but I don't even know what part of my code to post. Can you think of any reason this could happen?

Trix Editor Upload

Thanks for putting together the Trix rails gem!

Do you have any examples you can share that show how to hook up Trix image/file uploads in a rails app?
