Binding of function return values to variables
Would love to use bind to unpack arguments that are complex, like a data.frame. Reproducible example:
bind(a, b) %<-% c(1, 2)
class(a) == "numeric"
class(b) == "numeric"
# mtcars is R sample data.frame of car data
bind(a, b) %<-% c("hello", mtcars)
class(a) == "character"
class(b) == class(mtcars) # <-- fails
# b takes the result of the first entry of mtcars: mtcars[1,1]
b == mtcars[1,1] # TRUE
Right now, the binding is only done based on positions, but just like named arguments to functions it should be possible to select the values to bind based on names.
I imagine something like
f <- function(x) list(x = x, double = 2*x, squared = x**2)
bind(x = double) %<-% f(1:4)
should assign the double
value from the list to the variable x
