dfo's Issues

Unselecting Search items crashes dfo

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Start DFO for the *very first time.*
2. Select and deselect each of the Edited and Commented Search items

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Because there are no photos, I'd expect nothing to happen. Instead, the
program crashes with:

Exception in Gtk# callback delegate
Note: Applications can use GLib.ExceptionManager.UnhandledException to
handle the exception.
System.NullReferenceException: A null value was found where an object
instance was required.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

0.7+svn45-1 on Debian.

Later...

Now that I have photos, I see that selecting and unselecting these
checkboxes does not cause the crash.

Enhancement: sync geotags as well

I don't see geotags in the UI, so I'm assuming they're not being stashed.
A good first step would be to pull them down (to support experimentation
from the database side); adding an actual map ui to the client can come
later...

allow user to set default tags

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add file to upload queue

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

It should contain no tags by default, or perhaps allow the user to define a
default set. Instead it includes a spam tag, "dfoupload", which serves the
dfo authors, but not the user.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

0.7+svn45-1 on Debian lenny

Apparently reversed upload and download icons in menu

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open Desktop Flickr Organizer
2. Look at the icons for upload and download
3. Mouse over the icons to see their actions.

What is the expected output?
The upload icon should point up, while the download icon should point down.

What do you see instead?
The icon pointing up should be upload, and the icon pointing down should be
download.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using Desktop Flickr Organizer version 0.8 on Kubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Please provide any additional information below.
I realize this is an inactive project, but if someone works on it this can
easily be fixed. The alternate is to fix it in the source code and build it
oneself. If I knew for sure which icons it was using, I could rename them if it
does not affect other applications.

This may be a bug in KDE or in the desktop theme I am using, but I don't know
if the application uses it's own icons or system icons.

Quick in-list metadata edition

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Select a photo in the list
2. Click on a metadata cell in the list item (title, tag, viewable,
license)
3. Change the metadata value

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- I see: nothing happens when I click on a photo metadata cell
- Expected:
  - editable cell
  - [return key] could set the new content
  - [tab key] could set the new content and make the next cell ready for
edit
  - [esc key] could revert the change and leave cell editing mode

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.7+svn51-2ubuntu1

Please provide any additional information below.
Thank you for this software

Crash in removing file from upload list.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Check out current svn (r52)
2. Compile
3. Run
4. Sync (I was surprised at this point that despite renaming my
~/.desktopflickr directory, it still had my API key)
5. Select a set of files to upload via normal drag-and-drop
6. Assign public, tags and description to a few
7. Remove a file from the upload list by dragging it to the "remove" window
region.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The file should have been removed from the upload list. Instead, the
application crashed with:

Exception in Gtk# callback delegate
Note: Applications can use GLib.ExceptionManager.UnhandledException to
handle the exception.
System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Subversion dfo-read-only r52. Ubuntu 9.04.

Please provide any additional information below.

Ubuntu 9.04 ships with dfo 0.7. I tried it, liked it, but ran into a
number of bugs. I checked the issues page, discovered some were fixed in
dfo 0.8. I downloaded the dfo 0.8 tarball, and discovered it depended on
lib versions older than what Ubuntu 9.04 ships with. So I grabbed svn
HEAD, built and ran it.

This is the entire terminal session, from checkout to build to crash:

Tag display bug when tag list contains an ampersand

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Select three files for upload
2. For the top file in the upload list, provide a tag not containing an
ampersand
3. For the bottom file in the upload list, provide another tag not
containing an ampersand.
4. For the middle file use a tag that contains an ampersand
5. Click on the top file in the upload list. Hit the down arrow key twice.
6. Hit the up arrow key twice.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see the tags I specified in the tags column of the upload list.

Each time the selection moves from an image with tags not containing an
ampersand to an image with tags that contain an ampersand, the tags from
the previously-selected image get displayed in place of the newly-selected
image's tags.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
svn r49, on Ubuntu 9.04. I *think* this is the SVN version that produced
the 0.8 release.

Please provide any additional information below.

When I couldn't run the 0.8 binary release, I downloaded, built and ran SVN
head. When that didn't work (see the bug report about crashing on removing
a file from the list), I checked the date of the 0.8 release and pulled SVN
r49, which was the last SVN revision prior to the 0.8 release. That's what
I'm running now. (BTW...It'd be nice if releases imported old SQlite
databases rather than requiring me to remove them; I had thirty files ready
to upload with tags set up, only to discover some bugs in 0.7 were
preventing me from uploading all of them. Renaming the directory and using
sqlitebrowser to get my old descriptions works in the mean time, though.)

Input/String escaping seems to be a recurring issue in dfo, causing a
variety of problems. That's something you should probably address up
front, and that should prevent a number of problems in the future.

photo license changing.

Changing the license of a photo does not work, I have uploaded photos,
added comments , changed titles which all work perfectly, just changing the
license does not.

I am running v0.7

Upload and download buttons are reversed

The "Upload Photos" and "Uploads" buttons use a downward-pointing arrow, while

Will not upload or update titles, descriptions, tags, etc.

I seem to be having this problem:
http://groups.google.com/group/dfo-users/browse_thread/thread/f3af801e217668e6
But if I understand the thread correctly, shouldn't this be fixed in the
current version? I'm a bit confused...

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install on Gentoo Linux (???)
2. Authorize dfo to access my Flickr account.
3. Queue some photos to be uploaded. Edit some tags, titles and descriptions.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I can see my photos currently on Flickr, but none of my changes to tags,
titles, descriptions ever get updated. None of my uploads ever get
uploaded, and none of my downloads ever get downloaded.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v 0.7 on Gentoo Linux amd64.

Please provide any additional information below.
I trapped the following errors in a terminal after a sync:

near "s": syntax error
  at Mono.Data.SqliteClient.SqliteCommand.GetNextStatement (IntPtr pzStart,
System.IntPtr& pzTail, System.IntPtr& pStmt) [0x00000]

  at FlickrCommunicator.RoutineCheck () [0x00000]

For a while, I was wondering if this was simply a user error. I suppose it
could also be a problem with my system (mono, etc)

I think that the gconf-sharp component is provided by Fedora's gnome-sharp
rpm, which notably contains the following file:
/usr/lib/mono/gac/gconf-sharp/2.24.0.0__35e10195dab3c99f/gconf-sharp.dll
Fedora 10 has the version 2.24, which should be recent enough.

Conflict makes dfo unusable

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set tags "a" and "b" in any picture
2. Set tags to "b" and "a" in the same picture using flickr Organizr
3. Try to sync

I get a conflict that cannot be solved, in any way, making dfo useless from
this point, because it doesn't uploads or downloads pictures while the
conflict persist.

I tried removing all tags from picture, but it doesn't work either. The
only solution was deleting the picture from flickr and then syncing again.

Enhancement: read-only mode

dfo asks for flickr authorization for *all* features, which makes sense for
a general editing tool. However, I'd like to use dfo as a local
backup/cache, and for this I'd like to give it only read-only authorization.

I suspect the only way to do that is to have it register a distinct name,
when configured for that mode - but it would be a comforting option to
have, especially when experimenting with a pre-1.0 program on a large
gallery...

Photo information not syncing

I uploaded a number of photos and was able to see them on the Flickr
web site.

I then selected all of the photos and set their visibility to Public.
I pressed Sync Now and the [Edited} label did not go away and the
state was not updated on the Flickr site. After pressing the Stream
and Sync Now buttons a few times, the photos got updated.

However, I then updated the Descriptions and Tags of these photos.
After half an hour of pressing every button on your interface, the

not been updated.

What I really want is to be able to select files from a window showing thumbnails rather than by file name

This is a feature request based on my experience of DFO 0.7 as packaged by
Debian. I would much rather drag and drop images from a Nautilus directory
browser or from an Eye of GNOME collection view than by using the GNOME
File dialog that shows me a list of filenames and a preview of one image.
None of the Flickr helper apps seem to offer this capability.

It's far easier to choose which photos I want to upload from a panel
showing thumbnails of all my pictures (or a directory's worth of them at
least) than from a list of file names. Drag and drop let's me work with
thumbnails.

It's just a suggestion. Thanks for a helpful application.

Regards,

Tom
