You could try this:

In short:

Backup your %APPDATA%/japreader/config/ folder (it has your seen, known etc. word data)
Delete entire %APPDATA%/japreader/ folder
Launch the japReader again and if it works try putting the backed up %APPDATA%/japreader/config folder

Sadly sometimes some cache data from previous versions makes it bug out, but I can't reproduce it consistently

Also I found a potential culprit (windows_settings.json not updating the version of the app in the preload path) so I'll work on fixing it
Edit: keeping this open until I fix it
