japreader's Issues

JapReader occasionally doesn't read text from the clipboard (when textractor is running)

Discussed in #34

Originally posted by benissimus June 9, 2023
I've been using japreader together with textractor on my laptop for a while and it works fine, but recently I got a PC and on that PC japReader will sometimes ignore Japanese text in the clipboard. After some testing and comparing the settings on the laptop and the PC I was able to confirm that this only happens when Textractor is also open, so I can't say for sure if this is a japReader issue. It affects both the text copied from textractor and outside of it, for example from a web browser. Just to be clear, the text is copied successfully and I can paste it, but japReader doesn't process it.
Laptop has Win 10 home, PC Win 10 Pro and pretty much the same language settings.
Are there any settings in japReader I could tinker with to get around this?

[BUG] Translation window for Deepl stuck on "Please wait patiently..."

Describe the bug
Program fails to connect to DeepL like it had previously. I was not using an API key.
To Reproduce
Launch program, wait for DeepL to connect

Expected behavior
A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.
It should say it connected to the DeepL server

If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Arch
  • Version: latest

Not reading Clipboard on Linux/KDE

Hello there, first trying out this helpful app. Seemingly installed fine and works without error, but just sits there regardless of what text is copied to clipboard. Is there anything I'm missing?

Blank window

I was using version 1.5.3 fine before upgrading to the latest version due to the DeepL connection issue.

When I open the program with 1.8.0 the translation window opens (the one with a pink checkered border) but there is no message saying it's connecting to deepl like it used to and none of the shortcuts work. I tried other versions but they are not working either.

Any idea how I can fix this? I am on Windows 10.

Thanks for continuing the project.

It's great to see someone working on this again. I hope development on this goes smooth for you, and I'm sorry if I left the code in such a messy state since I didn't expect other people to be working with it. I still occasionally check out /vg/ archives to see how people are doing with it. One major issue I still have is its dependence on ichi.moe's parser. If tshatrov changes his site even a bit, the parser code will completely break. He hasn't changed the site in years, so everything's been working fine. Possibly having a backup parser just in case might be something to think about. Once again, good luck with the project.

Not connecting to Deepl

Seems like something changed with deepl API and now jap reader doesn't connect or translate anything.

Just recently updated it to latest release.

Can't connect to Deepl

Unfortunately it seems to have broken down yet once again. Also nice touch on adding it.

It was working fine yesterday.
Maybe unrelated or not, but sometimes it just stopped translating and wouldn't come back until restarted.
Also, probably unrelated, but having a % character break japreader, for both the translation and furigana window.

[BUG] Unable to launch program

Describe the bug
A clear and concise description of what the bug is.

Japreader is not launching at all.
Trying to run it via the terminal in /opt/japreader/japreader gives me this error:

Error launching app
Unable to find Electron app at /opt/japreader/japreader.asar

Cannot find module '/opt/japreader/japreader.asar'
Require stack:
- /usr/lib/electron22/resources/default_app.asar/main.js
-

To Reproduce
List of steps to reproduce the behavior

Install japreader-bin via AUR with yay helper tool. Try to run program, either with GUI (will not show anything) or with Terminal (will show error)

Expected behavior
A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.

Program running

What about manga?

I know this is not OCR program just want to ask what program best used to read raw manga?

How do you Reset it?

Wondering how can you reset what are known/ignored words and whatnot, already tried to delete the local files, unless I got the wrong ones.

Also wondering about the word count feature, would be interesting to elaborate on it, but I don't know if there is any indication.
