Hi! Just to preface, I don't really know anything about coding
I tried following the instructions as best I could. When I play, the ultrawide support is there (it looks AMAZING) but the text is off center. Do you have any tips on how to fix?
The current method for subtitle handling is to move a vertex shader based on the presence of a certain index buffer. This leads to some oddities, like the left side of the screen "popping" into/out of a mission rather than fading in/out. There's a few other visual oddities as pointed out by @martinsstuff in #6. I think he also wrote the original implementation of it, IIRC.
This issue is to see if there's a better method for moving the subtitles in game.
Today the game updated,old version can't used!
I've seen a bunch of people make the mistake of downloading the wrong 3Dmigoto version because the version ordering on the releases page is weird as they aren't making new GitHub releases for new versions.
Just something I wanted to open as an issue for a potential improvement, not a lot of people use these resolutions but it is coming back on some portable devices like the Microsoft Surface Line with 3:2 aspect ratios.
At line 261, at least for 3440x1440 monitor resolution there is an issue with the calculation of the hud_shift_amount, the fix is as this:
hud_shift_amount = (standardized_monitor_width - 1920) / 2.
Divide by 2 as the comment implies instead of 3840.
The removal of denuvo update has caused the ultrawide patcher to cease functioning, error message application load error 3:0000065432
Needs more research. Problem is intermittent and not readily reproduced. Install location of the game has been ruled out, as well as running the script/python itself with admin privileges.
There is a new update live, will ac7-ultrawide update too ??
I see at Line 50 to 52 there is a note talking about FOV adjustment. So I changed the horizontal_fov_degrees to,
horizontal_fov_degrees = 120
but I'm not seeing any difference in game, just seems to be at that default value 58.7 that you talk about. Am I changing the correct value? Do I have to adjust the horizontal_fov_radians too?
A game update must have changed which shaders are used for the HUD backgrounds when you get struck by lightning. I may have to fix these too, but the game has more updates to come... What else could change?

I was using this fix a few months before the Top Gun Maverick DLC launch. While the fix itself still works, I can make it ultrawide without too much issue, I cannot adjust the FOV at all. If I do, it causes magic.py to fail after the first two dialog boxes.
horizontal_fov_degrees = 125 (horizontal_fov_radians)
This is the line that I am basing this off of. There is also an issue regarding this from 2022 where the user supposedly fixed it but did not post what they did to fix it (go figure). If I change that from "125" back to the default the python script runs fine. Is this something im doing wrong or is that not what that line is for anymore.
I also noticed that by default the magic file says my resolution is 3840, but changing that to my actual resolution is how I got the ultrawide fix to work.

I was just going to download the game on my PC, run this, and then transfer that over to the Deck as it seemed like the simplest way to get things working, but my monitor isn't 16:10, and the description says the first step is determining the user's resolution via the monitor. The game runs great on the Deck, but annoyingly runs at 16:9 which leaves letterboxes on the screen. Could definitely use that extra real estate!
I've tryed to install twice, but I got the message:
"No bytes were changed. Was the game already patched? Recommend restoring exe from backup and rerunning this script."
On the the first time the message appears it said a fewer bytes then the expected were changed and recommend to do the changes manually. But I do not know how to.
Now the game will not open anymore.
I know I can reinstall. But I would like to know how can I make the changes manually so I can try again.
I think the Top Gun Maverick DLC has broken this solution. Will there be an update?
Which means I have to do some more shader hunting. Need to find the map background and character portrait background, just like in mission 7.
First of all thank you for your hard work. In reality the game should natively support most resolutions.
The latest update on Steam has resulted most menu sizes to be 10 x 6cm and illegible. And the actual game play is only on 1 screen now.
Also the cockpit HUD has disappeared - possibly showing on one of the other screens.
Please help!
