can rpyc be operated asynchronous?

Using async_, calls can be executed asynchronous, but there is not direct signal slot mechanism to integrate it into the qt event loop. Maybe there is a way to make the rpyc calls async in order to dispatch the request and the pick up at that point when the result is there.

Make callbacks run in another thread

In order to not block the measurement thread, callbacks should be executed in another thread.
If a client is not accepting the callback, this will block the measurement thread, which is undesired behavior

Treeview is slow with many datasets

DataGatewayTreeView is slow when it needs to load many datasets. This is probably due to it having to make many requests to the data server.

• Think about minimizing the amount of requests necessary
• Add data in increments
• Use a separate thread for fetching the data, see:

Improve GUI handling of connection errors

Areas of improvement:

• GuiDataGateway, when reconnecting, the callbacks no longer work since they point to a different connection.
• Implement connection error handling for InstrumentGateway, as an example by defining a GuiBaseGateway
