berryterminal's Issues

Alternate shells do not work

I spent forever trying to figure out why some of my users could log in and others could not.

Turns out users that have TCSH as their default cannot login using berry terminal.

ZSH or BASH work just fine, but TCSH does not work at all. I'm assuming this is because most (all) of the commands in the rc.d scripts are run as if the user has BASH and the syntax is not compatible with TCSH.

I'm not sure if this even requires fixing, but I figured I'd get the word out that this is an issue.

Berryterminal building error with freadahead.c! Help!

Maxnet, I tried building the BerryTerminal on a Raspberry Pi 4, but for some reason, it gives me an error saying that freadahead.c was not ported to the platform for the Pi 4. Can you help me figure out what's going on?

Screen goes blank after a while

I use berryterminal for connecting with an LTSP Server. The server is configured to never shutdown the display but after time of inactivity the berryterminal shutdown the display. Is it possible to configure the display always on in the berryterminal? Thanks alot for your help!

Idea ssh install with new image

Hi All,

Maybe a good idea to have a option to enable SSH when you install a linux distribution?
Only thing that has be done is:

touch ssh on the boot partition.

When berryboot is done with the install it will put this file on the /boot/ of the os, when you startup then you directly have access using SSH

BerryBoot custom OS w multiple partitions?

This is the kpartx scheme for FydeOS for Raspberry Pi which I'd like to add as a custom image.
Any idea how to handle this many partitions? The documentation only mentions finding the ext4 partition with everything that's not boot or kernel.

root@server:/home/user# kpartx -av FydeOS_for_You_Pi400_v13.1.img

Tips on setting up minimal ltsp server

Hello,

I'm not sure where to post questions so i apologize if this isn't the right place.

I want to use berryterminal to connect to a minimal ltsp session. The ltsp session berryterminal connects to will auto connect using rdesktop to a windows virtual machine. Basically the ltsp i setup won't be used except for rdesktop.

Would you have any links or advise you can give me on how to set this up?

Thank you.

Current image does not boot on RPi B+ Hardware

I'm having some trouble getting berryterminal to work on the newer B+ hardware model. When I place a (known working/tested on model B) MicroSD card in the B+, the activity light on the B+ will flicker momentarily and then go out, leaving only the power light on.

I have been attempting to build a new image myself from the source here and the latest RPi firmware to see if that fixes the issue, but some errors with crosstool have been stopping my build before it completes.

Only images that run wizard on installation works

I don't know why, bot apparently only images that, on the first boot, run some sort of wizard, like Manjaro and Ubuntu, are the ones that I can install. Can it be the storage size being a problem? I never considered the fact that it's a M.2 SATA card adapted to USB. Tried PiOS from the repository, used cifs to load TwisterOS and RetroPi from my home server, it didn't work either, they're listed, added to the Pi, but don't work. I get that "A start job is running for /dev/disk/by-label/boot", "Dependency failed for /boot", "Dependency failed for Local File Systems", bla bla bla, "You are in emergency mode bla bla bla, "Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked", bla bla bla, "Press enter to continue".

Tried google, no joy. What could it be?

Pi4 8GB
Argon One M.2
1TB M.2 SATA (don't judge me, I want options)
64GB SD Card (overkill, but it's what I have)

Default LDM screen

Hi,

I have got the thin client working on a RPi but when booted the default login screen keeps appearing. I have changed the theme on the LTSP server (edubuntu 12.04) but it does not make any difference. Is this a berry terminal fault or the server?

I am asking here as I have changed the files on the server so need to check.

Cheers,

Cannot start (most) sessions with Edubuntu 14.04.1

I am having issues with the combination of BerryTerminal 20131225 and Edubuntu 14.04.1. When I try to start a session the display becomes black and only the X mouse cursor remains visible.

I see on the LTSP server that the user is actually connected and that some processes were started. But it won't go further than the "gnome-session --session=ubuntu" step. However, of all the possible sessions I have tried so far, the only ones I found working where "xterm" and "openbox" (not part of the default installation). Other sessions just hang.

Starting a PXE client in Virtualbox (connecting via host-only netwerk to Edubuntu, which is running as well in Virtualbox) works fine. Using BerryTerminal in combination with an older Edubuntu release (12.04.4) works as well.

I have no idea to fix this. It looks like I am not the only person that is affected as these reports look similar:
