Tabbing between input elements not working with Gboard in Chrome

Expected Gboard behavior:
The bottom right button changes from enter to tab when an input field is focused. This is indicated visually by changing the key's symbol from ↲ to ⇥

New behavior:
The symbol on the key changes from ↲ to → and it does nothing when pressed.

I still see the expected behavior on other websites, but not on anything that I've hosted.
I've tried it on two different Android devices with Chrome and Gboard with the same result.

If I use Hacker's Keyboard instead, the tab key works fine.

My current theory is that this was caused by a Gboard change because I haven't changed my code since the last time it worked
