Letter Format Template

This is a Quarto template that assists you in creating a manuscript using the letter format.

Creating a New Letter

You can use this as a template to create a letter. To do this, use the following command:

quarto use template mcanouil/quarto-letter

This will install the extension and create an example qmd file and bibliography that you can use as a starting place for your article.

Installation For Existing Document

You may also use this format with an existing Quarto project or document. From the quarto project or document directory, run the following command to install this format:

quarto add mcanouil/quarto-letter

Usage

To use the format, you can use the format name letter-pdf¹. For example:

quarto render template.qmd --to letter-pdf

or in your document yaml

format: letter-pdf

It's possible to change the subject title and the subject suffix, e.g., for a French letter:

subject-title: Objet
subject-suffix: " :"

I spent this sunday playing around with your extension and very much liked the idea to get letters out of as little as possible markdown files. I adapted this to my own used sclttr2 template latex template. I extended it with a lot of the Komascript builtin Variables to make it look more like a usual current letter .

Before I fork and release just the same again I would rather appreciate if you would be interested in these code snippets.
I still got some minor issues like shortened phone numbers due to yaml features but itts working at least for me pretty well.

Subject language

Hi, thanks for this template. I am writing a letter in Spanish and adding option lang: es to the yaml was sufficient to have the date in Spanish. Nevertheless, prefix "Subject" to the subject of the letter remain in English. I was not able to understand how to improve partials/before-body.tex to make "Subject" word depending on the language. Or, alternatively, to change it directly.

I will really appreciate some guidance.

Adding Letterhead to template

I am wondering if it's possible to add a letterhead (a .jpg file) to the top of a letter template.

Add translation feature for "Subject"

Sections

I see that the template does not support sections or subsections. It is really sad, because adding structure to the document is always nice. Please, consider allowing section headers defined by Quarto # signs

Would it possible to add top logo and after letter signature?

I was searching for a letter template for the quarto, and thank you for making this available.

It would be very helpful if a logo and signature option (and control of position) is available. Just an idea.
