voxy's Issues

Can see bedrock in spectator mode while underground

As soon as you go under y -34 you can see the bedrock layer for some reason.
2024-03-12_14 14 10
2024-03-12_14 14 40
Also, this only happens after you've been inside a cave or something? I'm not exactly sure. You can't see the chunk(s) your player is in, and there also seems to be some sort of camera clipping going on. Here's a video for clarification:
https://streamable.com/y96gvg

I'm using the Faboulously optimized modpack and 3 extra mods: voxy 1.4.0, c2me and nvidium. I'm on windows playing fabric 1.20.4 and I have a 7700x and a 3060. I'm also playing on a server.

(suggestion) Fog of war

I'm really liking this mod so far, performs amazingly however the lack of fog is definitely a thing at the moment.

If/when you add compatibility for fog, I would love to see a 'fog of war' feature where chunk trails are faded out with a fog effect at their edges instead of being anchored to the players point of view.

Shader styling: Complementary Shaders

This mod works pretty much flawlessly as of the newest version, compiled with the iris 1.7 pull request in minecraft version 1.20.6 using complementary shaders, however the water looks very bad when lined up with the loaded chunks. If you could somehow patch the shader so it shades the distant water and like makes the waves fade (slow down untill theres no more) out over the distance to the chunks so when it lines up this would look literally amazing. There's only one more gripe and that is that the lighting of the chunks is bright at night but fine during the day becuase for some reason the global lighting of the world around you doesn't get applied to the voxy chunks. If those two issues could be fixed that would be amazing..

1.20.1

make the mod work with minecraft 1.20.1 please

Water/lava rendering issues

  • Water fog doesn't render
  • Water has weird line where the voxy chunks appear to be rendered over the vanilla chunks
Both these issues can be seen in this image: Screenshot

/voxy import breaks across dimensions

I attempted to run /voxy import world while I was in the end, but it appeared to generate the LODs from the overworld instead. When flying into them, they are not replaced correctly resulting in some glitchy visuals.

I was also able to replicate the same issue in the nether.

Vulkan mod

The Vulkan mod very much optimizes video cards with support and would be a great solution to compatibility with such a mod.

Incomplete LODs rendering with Mesa on Linux

When using Voxy I have very broken rendering: a bunch of seemingly random chunks gets rendered near the player, here is a screenshot: https://ibb.co/5RhXGpL ;
The issue persists regardless of whether or not I'm running any unnecessary mods on the side, or on the type of the world that I'm playing, as for the logs, the seems to be an error, but the game does not crash : https://mclo.gs/hhk6303;
As for the mod configuration - I'm using default settings and config.
Minecraft version: 1.20.4, Voxy version: 0.1.5-alpha.
I'm running Minecraft via Prism Launcher on linux, my java version: openjdk version "17.0.10" 2024-01-16 (not sure what else to add)

Note: The actual issue seems to be with rendering saved LOD chunks - when using somebody else's chunks for a test, only parts of them get rendered: https://ibb.co/bKv4D12

Note: It seems the reason is that I use mesa 24.0.7, using zink and downgrading to mesa 23.3.5/6 should fix the issue

No information about dependencies at Modrinth

I looked at the mod description on Modrinth and found no dependencies there. I downloaded and installed the mod, but found that I needed to additionally install Sodium, fabric-api and cloth-config.

Please add information about dependencies on the Description page of the mod, if this is not difficult for you.

Shader support

Shaders right now don't detect that the render distance if farther and also lack a lot of features on the lod zone.
I think it's super important to get Voxy working with shaders

Minecraft crashes when entering a world

Minecraft starts fine but when I load a single/multi player world the moment its ready to join me in, the game crashes.
It gives me this exit code: -1073740791

Barrier blocks show as LODs in survival mode

I'm not sure if this is an intended feature or a bug so I figured I'd report it just in case.
Long story short, a server I play on had some remnants of an old strip of barrier blocks not fully removed near spawn up in the sky from an old forgotten project. Normally these wouldn't have been noticed unless someone was near them in creative mode (i.e. an admin), but because I had flown near the area with Voxy, I was surprised to see the barrier block cancel sign texture had been saved in my LOD data.
To clarify, I'm not an admin nor do I have access to creative mode. The only way I even found these was the LODs stored them and I noticed them from far away.

Grass and flowers not being in lod the first time it's loaded

https://streamable.com/wkxhc8

I don't know if these lod chunks were generated by flying around or by being imported from a file, but the grass and flowers were not in them. Once I flied over them, they got added and weren't removed when I flied back.

Black chunks when moving around

Whenever a chunk changes lod resolution for example because you moved closer to it, it becomes invisible and black until the new lod is loaded. Is it possible to make it so that it loads the new load in the background without removing the already existing one until the new one is finished, so that you don't see a black void when switching?

Voxy causing game to crash on joining world

Adding Voxy to a working optimization modpack I made crashes the game but only when I try joining a world, otherwise everything works.
I've attached the latest log, ShadowRenderer I think is the cause of the problem but that's just after a quick glance by an untrained eye (that can't read logs).
latest.log
I'm not running shaders or anything either.
Also attached a screenshot of the mods I'm using.

This is the first time I've tried to use Voxy after hearing a lot of good things about it (and I imagine it works phenomenally, provided the game doesn't crash).

Voxy crash

I imported a rather big world into voxy (75.5GB) and after importing, the voxy data was 52.2GB. It loaded the whole world just fine at quality 26 and 1024 render distance, and I was getting over 100 stable fps with my 3060. Everything was great, until the moment that I moved to a new chunk. Then, it instantly crashed. Here is the crash log:

LODs within render distance displaying old data.

LODs seem to be rendered within render Distance and not be Updated.
Reloading the chunks via Debug (F3+A) did not solve the issue. Walking further away and back seemed to help.
Even standing close, the almost completely removed building was still displayed:

Getting closer to it resulted in weird artifacts:

Leaves decaying naturally (not broken by player) do not get removed from LODs

I came across this anomaly both on a multiplayer server and my own single player worlds when I was cutting down trees.
Leaves I broke manually were fine, but ones that decayed and vanished on their own naturally remain in the LODs and can be seen when further away.

Here's a screenshot where the leaves in my world were decaying (most already decayed; some were broken by me):

Here's what can be seen when I move further back away from where the tree was:

Restarting the game and/or relogging into the world does not fix this.

Colormap breaks for textures with custom name

The snowy blocks (purple line in image) have their colormap applied fine in the LOD chunks, however the grass block texture with a custom name does not get it's colormap rendered properly.

The used texture pack with only the required files for the bug to happen is attached as well.

This might be what causes #32

Crash error on Server Join (Mine in Abyss)

While playing on the Mine in Abyss Minecraft server, I encountered a bug with this mod that occurs alongside a bug in the fall damage system of MiA. Replicated by first falling enough blocks to kill you and not moving (resulting in you staying alive as the fall damage system has an issue where you can survive falls as long as you don't move), quitting the server, and joining again.
This bug fully crashes Minecraft 1.20.4 on Fabric Loader 0.15.7 with Voxy 0.1.5-alpha. Running alongside Voxy is Fabric API 0.96.11, Sodium 0.5.8, Mod Menu 9.1.0-beta.1, and Cloth Config 13.0.114.
The error that is given is a STATUS_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION (-1073741795/0xffffffffc000001d)
The Mine in Abyss discord is here, with this bug report by me there.

Full Crash Exit Code Process crashed with exit code -1073741795 (0xffffffffc000001d). Below is an analysis of the exit code. THIS MAY BE INCORRECT AND SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A PINCH OF SALT! System exit code name: STATUS_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION System exit code description: {EXCEPTION} Illegal Instruction An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction.
I assume this happens around the same time as loading the MiA resourcepack as the crash occurs when that is approximately halfway through. This GitHub issue will be linked in the bug report thread mentioned above.

Vivecraft rendering is broken when voxy is enabled

When using Vivecraft's VR mode, rendering with voxy is currently broken. Below is a screenshot with normal Vivecraft gameplay. When voxy is disabled, water, hands, and GUI all render appropriately.
https://ibb.co/1XQjDtT

However, when voxy is enabled, water becomes severely glitched, either not rendering at all, or partially rendering with a lot of noise. The next two should hopefully show it a little bit. In motion, the water is noisy like static though. The water generated by voxy LODs render fine though. Other textures close by become noisy too, though they render fully at least.
https://ibb.co/sQkfrVV
https://ibb.co/7zPKtb5
https://ibb.co/nnHWMCs

Furthermore, when voxy is enabled, all GUI elements, including the players hands become invisible, making menu navigation impossible.

These issues only occur when VR mode is enabled. Regular 2d doesn't seem to exhibit any of the issues above with Voxy enabled.

Cannot see clouds with voxy

I just simply can't with voxy turned on, no matter what the setting is in sodium.

voxy chunk saving issue

image
when i loading it manually sometimes chunks didnt save (it can happend when i /tp somewhere this can be the issue)

Backface culling seeming to only be working in one direction.

  • Voxy Version: 0.1.5-alpha
  • Arch Linux
  • Wayland
  • AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU
  • Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU
  • Gensokyo Reimagined alpha 1.6.0 alpha 2 modpack

Observing an issue where the backface culling only seems to be occurring properly when looking North-east, when looking south west its as if its still culling the north-east faces.

Unsure of what extra info to provide, if more info is needed just request and I'll get it for you.

Improvements Not actually bugs

image
can u please reduce the chunk brightness so it will match the color or atleast add a slider

image
instead of having these weird textures is it possible to have a plain colored lod it will look really nice

image
Ambient Occulsion around the grass is way to dark please add a option to configure it

addittionally fog will be a nice addition .

I Really Love this mod as it performs really well and would love to use it Please Implement the above features
Thank you For making this mod !

Water and blocks flicker on imported world
