fluentui-emoji's Issues

Some emoji lacking skin tone data

First of all i'm incredibly thankful that you decided to open-source these.

I've tried to write a small script that convert the emoji into (codepoints).svg and noticed that certain emoji like 🤼‍♀️ woman wrestling lack unicodeSkintones in their metadata.json despite having skin tone variants

Would it be possible to get this fixed or provide a download that has all files with just their codepoints as names?

Add an icon for the Baha'i Faith

Many of the world religions are available in the emoji set. It would be nice to see the Baha'i Faith represented. The most common symbol is a 9 pointed star. I am not an artist, so me making one would not do justice. But I just wanted to make the request.

"unicodeSkintones" missing in metadata of a few emojis

Most emojis which support different skin tones have a unicodeSkintones attribute in the metadata.json file. The following emojis don't have this attribute:

Man with bunny ears
Man wrestling
Person wrestling
Skier
Woman with bunny ears
Woman wrestling

A copyright related question

Hi,
If I want to use emojis to make a promo banner, which is not commercial, where do I need to put a copyright?

Needs more weapons

Lacks diversity in tools, vehicles and weapons for games and conflict maps

Missing shadows on the eyes of several emoji

On the "Color" version of several emojis (i.e : "kissing face with smiling eyes", "pensive face", "disappointed face"...), the eyes don't have any shadow. They're just simple lines.

It feels unintentional as their "3D" counterparts do have shadows. Some of them even have shadows on their eyebrows and not on their eyes, which doesn't add up.

Ninjacats

Any chance the Ninjacats are going to make it to this set of emoji?

Wrong licence

Hi

Making these emojis open source is imo great!

But you put this Repo under the MIT license (which is also in the Microsoft repo template).

The problem with this is that the MIT license is for Software and its associated documentation. This repository does not contain any of these two things.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems to be the wrong license for this repository.

Doge emoji

Is there a doge emoji in fluentui emoji?

SVGs were exported incorrectly

Hi,

Please look at these two example SVG's from the repo. SVG is meant to be scalable yet when zoomed in anti-aliasing is clear. The SVG's are currently are not usable.

3D Source

Thanks for opening this work up!

Was surprised to see that the "3D" data is not in source form, but rendered form. That really limits what kinds of remixing and (machine) learning can be done. What plans are there to provide this?

Missing skin-tones

Thank You <3

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed to this amazing emoji library!

They're so fun and special ^_^ Can't wait to use them in my projects!!!

One thing I had thought of that may help in the future as our displays and devices become more 3D, if there's a way to share 3D models of the emoji. I understand this is a big ask as the original files were never intended to be fully 3D or in a format like .gltf, but it would be very cool to see these in 3D on the HoloLens (or maybe a Looking Glass display or Northstar headset 😉)

Very excited to be able to use these emoji, great work to all involved! They're stunning 🥰

Thank you for continuing to contribute to open source <3

Emoji missing

Hello, i cannot find the star emoji face: 🤩

¿can you help me?

File Organization

I don't know about a lot of value add, but it would seem that the project could benefit from adjusting the folder structure.

Right now there are folders for blue heart, red heart, green heart, etc.

Would there be a benefit of creating a top level "heart" folder and then have the colors be subfolders of that. If you want to make changes to "heart" then all of the files would be close by in the folder structure?

Versioning sync with Figma

Hey guys,
First I want to say the product looks awesome, thank you for such tool.

But I have a question regarding versioning on the repository side and here of Figma.

Right now we have 14.0.2 on Figma and 1.1.164 as last available tag which lead to totally different build.
Can you please help me to figure out the proper way to understand those versioning, so I can keep my sources updated and synced.

Colour Palettes and Construction guidelines - Future colour font formats

I understand these may be free for remixing and use - and not for seeking people to submit additions.

But it would be neat to see the palettes, gradients, colour combinations used for these - as well as some of the guidelines the Emoji teams work to, when making future additions to the sets.

As for the font formats - will the upcoming Google colour font format, with its support for gradients - be used for generating from the non flat SVGs? And is it possible the Windows team could adopt this, either as a replacement for the flat colour versions, or maybe as a toggle in settings?

Some "light" skin tone emojis have a yellowish colour

Most light skin tone emojis use the color FFD7C2 as skin color.
A few use FFDEA7 instead, which looks strange when used together with the others. These emojis are:

  • Backhand index pointing down
  • Backhand index pointing up
  • Hand with fingers splayed
  • Raised back of hand
  • Raised hand
  • Right-facing fist
  • Vulcan salute

Include list of lissing emoji

As noted on Ars Technica:

There are just a few Microsoft designs that it hasn't open sourced, including the paperclip that looks like Clippy (the character is apparently copyrighted). A couple of other emoji were excluded because Microsoft's versions exclude [sic] the Windows logo.

The README (or some other file) should include a list of what such emoji from the Emoji standard are missing,

Organize Icons by Style

First of all Thank you for amazing resource!

I think that organize the icons by style and not by icon it makes more sense as a designer.
When I design any product I usually select between one single style then search the icon I need.

Just look how Material Design Icons (or any ui icons pack) is organize their icons by style (Solid, Line, Color, etc)

windows 10 emoji?

first, thank you for releasing this! for the app I am developing the old MS emoji pack from windows 10 is more suitable, are there any plans to release those emojis as well? thanks!

Missing svg for "Playground slide"

Hello,

I scanned the assets folder and I found that the icon "Playground slide" is missing the "Color" subfolder with the 3D style svg.

Thanks for open sourcing!

Font files

It'd be very useful to have pre-built .ttf files available, for use cases like website and app development. Thanks for making this open source, hope you'll consider it!

Bring Country flags to Windows!

It's time that Microsoft brings country flags support. Pretty much every other Operating system (OSs) like Android, iOS, macOS, etc. has emojis for each country, but for any mysterious reason, Windows has never done it! 🇵🇱🇪🇸🇪🇺

Mans shoe missed

Hi, The emoji set looks so Awesome. Thanks for open-sourcing this project!

Only this two of the emojis did not follow the structure!

Different emoji

image

I was messing around with the provided emojis and noticed these dont seem to be the same ones as in microsoft teams (note the smaller eyes). I checked out the set of icons provided to emojipedia and these also seem to use a different revision.

Is the open-source icon set intentionally different from the one used in microsofts products or is one of them simply an older version?

feature request: generic replacement for the paperclip emoji?

As mentioned in the blog post announcing this effort, the paperclip emoji was omitted as, since it was based on Clippy, it couldn't be released for legal reasons.

However, the lack of metadata could cause problems for other projects using this repository as a source of checked/production-ready metadata and it's somewhat unfortunate to have a missing emoji; therefore, would it be possible to include a generic variant instead (possibly based on the dual-paperclip emoji)?

(Side note, but thank you so much for letting us use these wonderful emoji sets 😄)

Several metadata/asset inconsistencies

I did some detailed analysis on the asset data/metadata and noted several inconsistencies:

  • Foot: has "unicodeSkintones" but is missing skintone folders
  • Handshake: has "unicodeSkintones" (with some wrong codes) and is missing skintone folders
  • Man with bunny ears: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders
  • Man wrestling: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders
  • Person genie: has "unicodeSkintones" (with some wrong codes) and is missing skintone folders
  • Person with bunny ears: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders
  • Person wrestling: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders
  • Playground slide: missing Color folder
  • Pregnant person: missing Medium-Dark/3D style folder
  • Skier: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders
  • Troll: has "unicodeSkintones" (with some wrong codes) and is missing skintone folders
  • Woman with bunny ears: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders
  • Woman wrestling: does not have "unicodeSkintones" but has skintone folders

NOTE:

  • 'd items were addressed in #70

One other strange one is "O button blood type" which uses parentheses around 'blood_type' in the svg filenames. For all other asset data, the file name is the lowercase of the parent asset folder + style (Color, Flat, etc.) with spaces replaced by "_", so based on that pattern I'd expect the filenames for this to be e.g. o_button_blood_type_color.svg, etc. Alternatively, the parent folder name could be O button (blood type) which would make the pattern work.

Missing country flag emojis

Hi! This emoji set appears to be incomplete, as it's missing the Unicode standard country emoji flags. I, and many others, would love to be able to represent our nationalities, identities, and travel by using these flags in the wonderful Fluent style.

Easy way to use on web

Is there an easy way to incorporate these into a website? A bit of javascript that can be used to replace emoji characters with images from this set?
