Reset wordpress to almost basics

Make sure everything is as basic as possible. Plugins that I don't need: purge those, extra security plugins: purge those. Leave performance and security related stuff to the xxl hosting provider, they have a managed solution, i don't need to complicate my setup anymore on the new hosting solution.

Move to id_rsa.pub through cpanel

I use sftp with login details to get in, but I need to add id_rsa.pub to cpanel, so i can login without using a password.

Do this on both accounts.

Clean up blog content phase 1

Once things are all working on the new setup, it's time to clean up all that stuff, go through each year, starting with 2020 and working way back, to remove content that's not worth having on the site anymore. And then go to the beginning in 1999 or whatever, and work my way up, removing what's not needed to have there anymore.

This leaves us with less blog entries, but they are no longer needed and filling up crap.
Making space for new and more relevant content and leaves the content that's maybe more fun to read for those who decide to browse through the archives.

Clean up blog content in file system

Once things are all working on the new setup, it's time to clean up all that stuff, move outdated files and things I dont' even remember why I have them there: out. Purge it after archiving it.

Current hosting package, ajax/rest elements dont work

I know what's wrong, don't know how to fix it, contact support to figure out how to deal with this, offer them to pay for their time.

Once this works, the step to move things to a new hosting account will be easier to take.

Clean up blog content phase 2

After cleaning up outdated entries, go through entries that we desire to keep and see if they need an update. Decide on the spot to either a- make new entry for it, or b- edit the existing one. (i prefer the latter)

Clean up blog content phase 3

Once content has been cleaned, it's time to load everything in a tab and glance over it. What has broken images, what isn't consistent, what has missing rich media?

XXL Webhosting solutions.

Currently I am on an outdated 20+ year old hosting solution with Dutch hosting provider XXL Webhosting.

I want to start cleaning up the package, but one of the things I want is to isolate the blog (mrfloris.com) away from this package.

I have to get in contact with XXL and discuss options to move to a new account, find out what's involved.

The namecheap.com for mrfloris.com has the domain paid for until November 2021.

I can buy a new hosting package, it has cpanel and other things, it will be easiest to just move it out of current hosting to new hosting, and have them transfer the domain and data. This way it's a managed solution and less stress for me.

  • contact xxl
  • get a new hosting account
  • pay that bill
  • make sure namecheap.com's ns is set to custom, so internally at xxl it's easier to manage.
  • make sure blog works on old hosting, before moving to new hosting, contact support to sort this out.
  • move data over with their help and sort out that it works on the new hosting, before using it "live"

Manage rich media / test attachments

Go through old content with rich media and figure out if they are direct links, or if we can use the wp internal attachment system.

Test is the system is working.
