Large amount of error when plate solving

Tonight I put on my 102mm refractor. And despite the issue with the binning that was fixed, I'm still seeing a large amount of error with each plate solve. This log should show when running a 32 point model that most points have large amounts of error. Polar align was pretty good. I ran the optimize model after it completed as Model RMS was around 800-900. Optimizing the model deleted almost all the points except for 8, and now the model RMS says 4.3 with polar align error 1.31 arc min. Any suggestions to why this might be? My refractor sits very close to the saddle compared to my larger scopes, would this have anything to do with it?

Hemisphere: Switchting between Built and Horizon mask freezes App for a while

Hello Michel,

in Hemisphere Window, when switching between "Normal", "Edit Built points" and "Edit Horizon Mask" freezes the app between 3 to 10 seconds.

Run Model build not starting

Hi Michel,
I found out (I assume), that "Run Model Build" will not start when the number of model points is greater than 99.
This is OK, because the mount can only handle 99 points.
But it would be nice, if a message either in Messages window or as popup window will show, that the model contains to many points and max value is 99.

ASCOM Support for "Obeserving waether conditions Hub"

since integration for INDIGO will definitely take some more time, would it be possible to integrate ASCOM direct support for "Observer weather conditions hub" so SQM and MGPBox could be connected?

MW4 stops after 3 images

Hi Michel,

just tested the latest version. I use a 57 point model, but each time when I start it it stops after 3 images and 4 slews. The image viewer shows image-0002.fits.

I have uploaded the log file, there may be multiple starts in it.

Issue with software update

Hi Michael, I wanted to install the latest version, hit the install button as a new version is available. Button turns blue but nothing gets installed, respectively it stays blue forever

Problem installing update 0.150.16b1

Hi Michel,

I am having problems using the Updater to get this latest update. I think the issue relates to pip and is presumably related to my environment although I can't be sure. Random crashes when leaving MW4 alone during image

Not sure what's causing this, but here's the latest log if it shows something. During an image session, while MW4 is regularly updating environmental data, it randomly crashes. Not sure what's causing this, as usually I'm away from the computer and notice it's crashed when I come back.

Getting some errors in the Mac terminal

Image downloads are stalling, even with 4x4 binning. It's giving C++ Errors in the console. Some images do download, but then there are stalls. Here's my latest log and errors.

Times Expired (not an issue)

hi Michel,
I noticed that MW4 is warning me about internal time table expired. Is there a way to update through MW4?
I didn't find any clue in the 10Micron user manual not in the handset, so doing that using MW4 would be great.

This morning MW4 was up and running.
This afternoon it did not start anymore........
Run.bat Update.bat nor Install.bat are stopping after a initial startup.
The dome driver is started btw.

No automatic connect to devices

Hi Michel,

I identified a serious problem: When starting MW4 it automatically connects the devices e.g. camera. But this could be fatal if you try to start MW during an imaging session, when these devices are already connected (esp. camera, MGPBox) and lead to crashing the complete session, due to mutual access to devices. I have not found any way to start MW4 and prevent it from connecting. Hence I could not start MW anymore for the complete night.

So I would appreciate if there would be an option to define auto connect [yes | no].

Open Weather Map

hi Michel,
the online weather data from OpenWeatherMap seems to be different from the actual ones.
I had my new API key from their website and queried for my observatory location (location id=2517643) but the data in MW4 are completely different. How can i set location in MW4?

In the attached image you can see the JSON data from a direct API call and on the right the values shown by MW4.

Some minor issues in MountWizzard4 GUI

Hi Michel,

first of all a big compliment for MountWizzard4.
During todays test I found some minor issues in the GUI.

• If I go to "Model Points" and open the "Hemisphere" Window I have the issue, that every mouse click on a up or down arrow (e.g. Points) results in two steps.
  E.g. I want to increase the golden spiral from 50 to 75 point and I press once on the up arrow, it will be decreased to 75 and than to 100.
  If the Hemisphere Window is closed. The behaviour is as expected.

• The Polar Diagram in Hemisphere Window is not shown if I activate this option.

• Sometimes an empty tooltip box appears, e.g. if you move the mouse over the "Mount", "Environ",... Tabs or every "white" text in the Mount area, e.g. "HA", "RA",... "Local Sidereal Time",...

• there are also some wrong "mouse over" message texts. E.g. if you move your mouse to "WakeOnLan" to "ON"/"OFF" the wrong text is shown. There are many others, if you want I can summarize the findings.

• Mount-> Parking/Emergency stop -> "Mount Park" Button : wrong text, I think, it should be "Switches the parking state on and off..."

Tried to install MW4 on MacBook

I have an old MacBookPro (mid 2009) with OSX 10.11.6 on it.
To try to take a sneak peek at MW4 I wanted to install it on my Mac.
That's all INDI, so should not be a problem. I used the cloudmasters.eu suite years ago.
Installed Pyhon 3.7.1. (for OSX 10.9 and later) and ran the MW4 install script.
After installation ran run script and get a error message that some module is written for OSX 10.12 and later. So this was a unsuccessful attempt. My MBP is to old for this . . . . . maybe I am too?

Plate Solving ASCAP

Hi Michel, I could test MW4 last night, very good!

I have one issue with plate solving that systematically fails.

Here what I see. This has been done this morning; image window; open FITS from last night and click on solve. I see a little pop up screen for less than one second and then get the error message back. CCD and mount are not connected, i guess this is fine.

Within ASCAP it always defaults the Field Height Image Field with 0,48degrees. That then fails as the correct value is 0,95. When I change in ASCAP to 0,95 and start the solving in ASCAP it works. When i set it to auto and leave ASCAP, go to MW4 load the FITS and ask to solve i have the error message.

Impact Flip Slew Tol / Flip Guide Tol to "Generate Model Points"

Hi Michel,
I have just some other additional questions.

It is possible to show and change the values Flip Slew Tol and Flip Guide Tol of the mount.
Possible values in MountWizzard4 are -20 to 20 for both settings.
I checked the User Manual for my mount and possible settings for my mount (GM2000HPS) are:
Flip Slew Tol : 0..30
Flip Guide Tol : 2..30
with the restriction that Flip Slew Tol <= Flip Guide Tol .
That means no negative values. but max value is 30.
Do you know, if possible values for this settings depending on mount type ?

The settings Flip Slew Tol and Flip Guide Tol has impact to the number of generated modelpoints, e.g. if I choose "Generate model points equally distributed".
If I activate "Auto delete points below horizon" it removes also points left and right beside the meridian depending on the Flip Slew Tol and Flip Guide Tol values.
Can you explain why ?

Furthermore I have a question again to "Generate model points equally distributed".
If I chooses number of points = 50 -> 25 points will be generated for the model.
points 75 -> 36
points 100 -> 49
points 125 -> 61
.
.
That means only about the half of number of points will be generated ?
Probably it did not understand the system.

mountWizzard4 connection to mount unstable

Hi,
I am trying to familiarize with mountwizzard4.
I own a 10micron GM2000HPS.
The installation on Ubuntu 18.04 was easy after installing the dependencies using your script MW4_Install.sh.

As first I tried to connect the mount. I filled the IP address and MountWizzard seemed to be connected to the mount (Mount is shown green and the Telescope pointing coordinates are filled. Also the values in "Status and settings from mount computer" are filled.
But if I try to connect the Keypad, it only shows a "Connecting...."

When I check the Hand Control of the mount , the Network symbol is blinking randomly. Normally the Network symbol is shown always, if a computer is connected to the mount.
(I also use KStars and Ekos on this Ubuntu 18.04. KStars/Ekos is able to connect to mount. That means all the Hardware, LAN-Cable,... seams to be error-free.)

Unreadable text in file open dialog

MW4 in ubuntu virtual box on dome windows PC

SInce Alpaca camera connection does not work, I am installing VirtualBox with Ubuntu 18.04.4
From there I would like to install MW4 and run it from Linux.
Is this a viable option?
I do need some help, because I have no experience with Linux and all the command-line instructions that are used here.

In "Sett./Conf. Imaging" Tab, within the "Actual Parameters" window, the values in the second column for Resolution and FOV are inverted.

Cannot install due to dependency version mismatch

Negative Lateral Offset value

Hi Michel,

thanks for implementing the Lateral offset for me, that makes quite a difference. A positive value is in the direction as in the new image in MW4, but I can imagine that there are users that have the imaging scope on the other side, therefore requiring a negative offset, but currently it is not possible to enter a negative value (for me the current situation is fine, so no rush from my side ;-)).

Model build doesn't start

hi Michel,
tonight I tried to build a model with the new version 0.148.4, the telescope slews to the first point (labeled with '0'), engage tracking but doesn't image.
I then tested if camera was connected : I used the 'image' tab and tried to capture 1s photo and solve it. Everything went fine.
I also tried different point generation algorithm and number of points but got the same results.

Generate model points as grid - not generating points

Hi Michel,
actually I am faced with another issue during my tests of MW4. Sorry.

When I try to "Generate model points as grid" and press Generate grid no model points will be created/shown in Hemisphere view.
The other generate model methods (e.g. Golden Spiral) are working.
I am using MW4 v0.148.0 on Ubuntu 18.04.

Wrong pop-up label a.o.

Some observations:

"Auto sort points"
When hovering with the mouse over "Avoid meridian flip when starting", a wrong pop-up appears.
It is the one identical to "Auto delete points below horizon"

When I build my model I did check "Delete model before start of model build"
But my existing model was replaced by the new model nevertheless.

Is this intended to allow a small model to be expanded with more points?

When I am looking at the "Manage model" windows I see the "models stored in mount computer" alphabetically listed. But what is the "Actual Mount Model" that I am currently looking at? I see no label for that.

MW4 - Virtual KeyPad does not connect

Hi, i have installed MW4 on a W10 environment with Alpaca. The App works fine with the only exception of the virtual keypad that keeps trying to connect. The IP is correct 10.0.0.197 but it uses port 8000 and i dont know where this comes from. The virtual keypad is not defined as device in MW4 nor in on the ASCOM remote server.

UPBv2: Multible issues (INDIGO)

Hello Michel,

I have tested features of UPBv2 via INDIGO and found following issues (v 0.150.17b1):

1. Variable power port is not correct (see screenshot).
2. Power port names are not forwarded.
3. Power values are not displayed (screen screenshot)
4. Ports cannot be switched.

At that point I have stopped testing since there seems to a serious issue.

Almanac: Twilight Phases not poppulated

Hello Michel,

in Almanac, the "Twilight phases upcoming night" is not populated by default when opening. You have to change Timezone from local to UTC an back to get data calculated.
Might be better to populated it by default with the chooses time zone.

Also the main window is empty. "Twilight phases per year" is a black empty area, Not sure how to use it.

Ideas fo analyse window

Hi Michel,
here are 3 ideas / questions:

1. Is it possible to load a model from the mount and store it on disk, so it is available in the analyses window? At least for some functions?

2. Is it possible to change the file selector for loading a model. Very often I am looking for the latest or second latest model. Hence it would be nice that you could sort for date.

3. Is there any explanation for the model prefixes? "m-allign", "m-file", or "m-none"

Undefined Tooltip text

In satellite tab "search string" has an wrong tool tip text (v 0.150.17b1):

ASTAP: Application path is hard coded

MW4 fails to find ASTAP if not installed in standard path, but somewhere else, since the path is hard coded.

Updated from 0.150.24 to 0.150.25ax will not start

Hi Michel;

I upgraded from 0.150.24 to 0.150.25a (something) don't recall what it said but is was NOT from the Beta line. MW4 will no longer start.

Generate model points as grid -- up/down in-/decreases 2 steps

Hi Michel,
I have just updated to MW4 Version 0.148.5 .
In Model Points tab I found out, that if i click on up/down for Rows, Cols, AltMin or AltMax the value is in-/decreased 2 steps. E.g. one klick on up for Rows the value is increased from 6 to 7 and to 8. Or one click on up arrowfor AltMin
MW4_2.zip
increases the value from 10 to 15 to 20.
This happens for all Up/Down arrows.

Dome geometry trial

Just ran a small golden cirkel model east/west order.
Found dome settings that give good accuracy for dome alignment.
However found accidentally 2 area's where things go wrong.
Sky points at 59 deg alt and az 36 and az 324
Point #16 in the model and the mirrored one.
Here the dome is send in the opposite direction.
In this dome position the telescope is looking against the dome roof,
When I rotate the dome at the same az as the telescope, the telescope just looks under top edge of the slot.
Points at a small distance from these 2 points cause the dome to find an acceptable position.
See the log #point16 was the troublemaker.
All the other points were well aligned within limits.
The numbers are ofcourse only valid for my set-up dimensions.

Camera connection through Alpaca

Installed version 0.148.2 (internal update did not work, used update.bat instead)

Managed to connect everything (ignore weatherdevice) through Alpaca.
All green.
Opened image window and pressed Expose.
Image taken? But no download of it . . . . .

Checked in SGP. Alpaca connects camera ok. Download time is a lot shorter now.
8 seconds from a ASI071.

MW4 device settings do not switch to Alapaca when selected to do so.

I installed MW4 on my in-house laptop as per recommended procedure.
Only ASI1600 camera to connect physically.
Installation went without a problem.
MW4 starts up and runs update too.
In sett/config - devices I can select the dome driver only to switch to alpaca.
Other devices only show disabled and indi. No alpaca. Not even after selecting alpaca in the setup.
Camera is connected ok, because SGP and CCDCile can make contact and asco- rest shows green buttons.
Image downloads are really slowthrough alapaca by the way.
From 1-2 sec to 15-18 sec with ASI1600 and ASI071

Unless I can connect through alpaca I cannot do a test of MW4.

Just installed MW4 on my dome computer.
Same result.
All equipment is up and running, but MW4 sees only the dome as a Alpaca device.

MGPBox cannot be connected via INDIGO

It is not possible to select the MGPBox in "Sensor Weather" (v 0.150.17b1):

Version 0.150.19 no startup

I updated to version 0.150.19 from 0.150.15. MW4 will not start up now.

Improvement suggestions UI (0.150.25b10)

Hello Michel,

the new Icon set is very nice, but sometimes on a big screen hard comprehend.
Here are 2 improvement suggestions:

1. Align labels left, because centering the cell content makes the UI too tattered. The human eye has no chance to find anchor points and align the information.

2. The text in disabled fields is not readable. It is too dark.

Image Binning bug on Mac

Michel I've come across a new bug introduced in the version between 0.1.5. and the current. I have always had my camera set to bin 3x3 since the files are so large, 50 megapixel in size. Their large size takes about 9 seconds to download over my LAN network, and longer to MW4 for some reason. This makes it prohibitive to use 1x1 binning with my camera.

So today, I updated to the latest version, and started a model, I noticed my screens were not getting plate solved. The images also looked very small in the image window. Also, after a good polar align, the images that were plate solving had as much as 800 error in pointing. It turns out that binning is not working properly. With the binning set to anything different from 1x1 the images get cropped to a small size, not binned. So at 1x1 you see the full image, at 2x2 you see less of the full image, and so on to 4x4 where there is so little image left, that platesolvign no longer works.

I've attached screenshots of my MW4 settings, the log, and some of the images that were captured during the model making showing sizes for Bin 1x1, 2x2, and 3x3 so you can see the difference. I did not reposition the telescope during this time, so the 3 images are the same field, and you can see what was happening when they got cropped, and not properly binned.

I have to use dropbox for the images because the fits are too large.

Precision in Adjust_Polar_Alignment window

Hi Michel;

Not sure if this in a issue or not.

In MW3 the precision in the "Adjust Polar Alignment" window was 2 decimal places. In MW4 it is currently 1 decimal place. When working at 380mm this left me with no hints as to which way to move the mount to improve PA. However, at 945mm the single decimal worked ok.

Feature Request: FL and Profilename displayed in "Model Build File Analyses" window

Hi Michel,

thanks for the new version! Excellent work! Very much appreciated!

While testing, I found myself in a situation, where I miss some information.
I wanted to compare some stored models. But I had the problem to identify which model file belongs to which profile. I create for three different scopes different models, so I had to open one after the other, to find the specific ones or even to read the models in Notepad.

So may I suggest following ideas:

• Include profile name in stored file model file
• display FL in the analyses window
• display profile name in analyses window

Again, great job and this is only making something very good, maybe again even a bit more better :)

There are no Graphs displayed. The window is empty, regardless which sources are chosen (v 0.150.17b2)
