Xdrip Lipo Bluetooth Board PCB

Xdrip on a printed circuit board!

The design files are in the folder "Eagle PCB Files"

Or you can order the PCB directly here

For other versions of this project check out the folder "Other Versions"

If you can't solder this board and need help send me an email and im sure we can figure something out. My e-mail address is my github username at gmail.com

Features:

  • The board uses a MAX1811 battery charging ic
  • Both Xbridge & Xdrip circuit support, selectable via a switch
  • Battery can be soldered directly on the PCB (2.54mm header) or via a JST-2 connector (2mm pitch)
  • Charging Status LED (On = charging; off = full)

Components:

  • 3x 1206 SMD Resitors (150Ω, 10kΩ, 27kΩ)
  • 2x 1206 SMD Capacitor 10μf
  • 2x micro switch MSK-12C02
  • 1x 1206 Red LED (any led should work)
  • 1x micro usb socket (ebay id: 121829362799)
  • 1x MAX1811 lithium charger IC
  • 1x JST-2 connector 2mm pitch (optional - your battery needs to have the mating connector - sparkfun sells compatible batteries, or buy the connector separately and crimp it on your battery)
  • 1x HM-11 Bluetooth V4.0 Transceiver BLE Module (I got the one from fasttech)
  • 1x Polulu Wixel
  • 1x LiPo/Li-ion Battery (I recommend using a LiPo battery)

Attention! The MAX1811 Charger IC is set to 500mah. Only use a battery with more than 500mah.

I source most of my components from eBay because of the free shipping. Here are some example links but consider that the prices change daily and shipping depends on where you are located:

PCB Assembly:

Everything is labeled on the PCB. The components are large enough to be soldered by hand, the trickiest for me was the micro usb socket. But if you use a hot air rework station (40$ on ebay) it should be very easy.

Here is a video how-to:

Software:

For the Wixel software i recommend xBridge from [John] (https://github.com/jstevensog). Just download the .wxl file and load it to the wixel. There are many advantages of xBridge, for example you don't have to re-compile the program to change transmitters because you can set it inside the xDrip app, improoved power saving features, battery level estimate, etc...

Here you can download the latest xDrip android app.

3D Enclosure:

I made an enclosure, however it still has to be improved. To further reduce space, the JST-2 connector is not used in this design. In the future I might add one with JST-2 support. The battery compartment should fit an 850mah Lipo Battery (7x30x40mm). For more information and to download the .STL files go to the "Enclosure" Folder. Enclosure

xdrip-lipo-board's Issues

Extra JST connector

Looking at the schematic it seems like there are two connectors for the battery. Is this just to support using a battery with a JST connector or solder the battery directly, or do they have separate uses?

Also, looking at the XBridge2 pdf, it seems like the wire from PIO1 on the HM-11 to P1_2 on the Wixel is no longer needed?

Parakeet

Hi have you had any joy getting the parakeet to work? I've ordered the parts but as yet not been able to older them all together, is there anyway you would be able to help me build the parakeet if I was to send you all the stuff.

Thanks
Deneil

enclosure 3D files

Hello mzst123,
I am using your design since several month and I am very pleased with it.
The only thing I wish to change is the battery (maybe put a larger one) and the JST connector. This is not feasable with the current enclosure.
You were mentionning that you woked on a new one. May I ask if you have reached a new design you'd be willing to share ? Otherwise, do you have the CAD version of the current one that I could use as a starting point to modify ?
Cheers,
Akira

Little Help Needed here in Canada

I have ordered the boards from OSH Park, I am currently looking for all the parts needed, my question involves the micro switches, are they a must? I currently have an xDrip Wireless Bridge built, there are no switches, its always on. I get the on/off switch option, but what is the difference between xdrip circuit and xbridge circuit?

I am sorry if this is a dumb question, just don't want to mess this up.

Version V2.1

Hi! Where I can find Xdrip PCB Lipo Board V2.1 files?

layout

Just a few questions

What components need to be orientated in a certain way

  • the led
  • wixel
  • bluetooth
  • jst connector

Also the ebay link for the resistors has 150R and 150K which one of these do I want?

Help from an expert needed

Hi,
i've read about this wonderful project, and am very interested.
I'd like to ask you if you have considered to sell one (eg if you have one more circuit).
Unfortunately I'm not so expert for realizing one from scratch.

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards :)

Enclosure - different size batteries?

mzst123,

First, thank you for putting both the PCB and enclosure projects together - I have built 2 boards so far and they have performed fantasic!

I do however wonder if it would be possible to have additional enclosures designed for larger batteries. Currently I'm using a 2000 mAh battery from adafruit in a tic-tac case. It's functional, but larger. I'd be happy to design a case around the larger battery size, but am unsure where to start in terms of design tools I have zero 3D printing experience.

My apologies for putting this on the bug tracker as a discussion rather than an actual bug, but hopefully this will spawn some useful discussion, if nothing else.

Again, thank you so much for making this available

Wes

New to T1 & looking at getting set up

Morning I'm new to T1 Diabeties, my 5yr old daughter has been resently diagnosed. Be been trying to work out what's the best method for Xdrip while Mariella is at school. I've ordered the newest version of the PCB Xdrip board, wixel, HM11 but as far as anything else goes I haven't got a clue were or what there for. We're do I get the info to download the wixel? And could you post links were to get the rest of the components that I would need to get. I'm in the UK so anywere UK or Europe based would be a help xxx

GSM PCB

First of all, thank you for this; excellent having a PCB to solder the components on.

Now that I have a working BLE receiver, I am planning to create a GSM receiver/Parakeet. What are the chances of you creating a modified version of this PCB where the HM11 is replaced by the SIM800L GSM module?

I would do it myself, but then I have to teach myself HOW first...
