nationofmakers.github.io's Issues

Put email link below board section

Per Dorothy:

I like the new contact us button 🙂 If it won't make you hate me, is there any way we can move it below the Board of Directors' pictures? It kind of looks random now that it's not a contact the Board button.... is going away now so I can stop adding work for you all

Donation CTA on Get Involved page

We want to inform visitors how they can donation and what they can donate. This is a placeholder for now.

Blocked on IRS status and incorporation

Display Letters of Support for Get Involved

Display social proof of Letter of Support in the Get Involved page. Might also consider sharing these letters on Member Organization listing with prominent indicator.

Likely want to include institution letterhead in display for further authenticity.

Blocked on Support Letter content

Design NoM site UI/UX

The design of the site should allow simple navigation, easy readability of content, quick navigation to key pages, and incorporate the brand and identity of the NoM (#22).

The deliverables would be sufficient instruction and assets to produce an HTML/CSS/JS shell of the NoM website. Design and styles should account for different content included throughout the site and "comfortably" accommodate that content. This includes basic content elements as well (p, div, h1-h6, pre, blockquote, img, strong, em, etc.)

Generate Transition Team Bios

  • 100-150 word summary
  • photo at least 800px width by 800px height
  • email address (optional)
  • canonical url(s) (optional)

Team Bios needed from

  • Bergen
  • Chad
  • Dana
  • Dorothy
  • Ian
  • Kari
  • Kipp
  • Steph

Layout Nov15 Site

Create a simple outline to support the following content in a Coming Soon site:

  • Introduction (#5 )
  • Brief about/history (#15)
  • Mission, Vision, Values ( #25 )
  • Board of Directors bios ( #1 )
  • Transition Group bios and contact form pointing to email ( #3 )
  • Newsletter signup form ( #27)

Gather past Press content about NoM

Find any and all press references, articles, blog posts, and stories. Both created by members, the press and the public. Please attach the URL, PDF, or media to this issue directly. High res media is available, please.

Get Involved page layout

The Get Involved page represents the most important Call-to-Actions from the Nation of Makers. It will consist of the following content:

  • Upcoming Meetings list (#6)
  • Letters of Support from Member Organizations (#9)
  • Open Application for the Executive Director position (#14)
  • Slack signup request/CTA (#11)
  • Membership signup request/CTA (#12)
  • Financial Donation (How and What to Donate) (#13)

Some of these sections have other issues open to gather their copy/content and should be coordinated appropriately.

About page layout

The About page represents a 10k foot summary on the Nation of Makers. It will consist of the following content:

  • Mission (#25)
  • Vision (#25)
  • Values (#25)
  • History (#15)
  • Press Coverage (#16)

Some of these sections have other issues open to gather their copy/content and should be coordinated appropriately.

Contact Us page

How will visitors be able to contact us?
What content to show?

Formalize NoM identity

Need a color scheme and brand identity which helps communicate our mission, vision and values. This color scheme and identity should be used consistently across mediums.

Deliverables out of this should include:

  • vector CMYK NoM logo
  • vector B&W NoM logo
  • color palette (with identified/consistent primary, secondary, and maybe tertiary color identified)

Please attach files and details directly to this issue.

Add Seed Funders Info

Add button at the top for "Sponsors."

Buttton should scroll to a "Sponsors" section on the main page, at the very bottom, that contains the logos for all seed funders. Logs in the Website Google Drive.

Slack Chat CTA on Get Involved page

A user should be able to initiate the request to join the NoM Slack chat from the Get Involved page. This CTA should be considerate of the experience and simplicity of managing the pipeline.

Generate Board of Directors Bios

Once we are aware of the Board of Directors, summary bios need to be generated.

They are:
Harley DuBois - Co-Founder of Burning Man, Board member of Burning Man and among other things has served as the city manager for Black Rock City for 10 years and is the co-founder of the Black Rock Arts Foundation.
Pamela L. Jennings - is currently a Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Business in the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education at Winston State Salem University and was formerly the Director of the Center for Design Innovation, a collaboration between Winston-Salem State University, the UNC-School of the Arts and Forsyth Technical Community College.
Adam Savage

Need 100-200 words about person's accomplishments and what they bring to the table as a NoM Board member.
Need a photo of the member's head that is at least 800px x 800px

Wrap static site build tools into container

To make the tools easier to maintain and more portable for others to use, we should put all of the tools required to manage the static site generation and related tasks into a self-sufficient container (Docker, pls?) for use by the team.

Deliverables include instructions for the use of the container and it's contents.

Spike static site framework

Stand up a framework for the site that allows simple content management via github.com repos and little management of the generation pipeline (if any needed).

Final Nation of Makers Navigation/Structure

Need to determine the final high-level pages for site structure for inclusion on main site navigation menu.

Likely links:

   |- Transition Team
   |- Board of Directors

Generate Board of Advisor Bios

Need summary bios for Board of Advisors. Requirements TBD

Blocked waiting to get final list of advisors.
Blocked on content requirements.

Upcoming meetings list for Get Involved page

Need a solution to provide a list of upcoming meetings for the Get Involved page.

Questions:
What is the frequency of updates to list?
Who will be updating the list?
What meetings are suitable for the list and what meetings are not?

Generate Copy/Content for History of Nation of Makers

In order to inform visitors of the motivation, momentum, and drive of our organization, the History will describe the series of events which helps to establish this collective of grassroots organizers.

Talking points should include:

  • Transfer of org from NOM v1
  • White House NOM gathering
  • Initial kickoff meeting in DC
  • Tiger Teams
  • Transition Team
  • Mission, Vision, Bylaws formation
  • Initial BOD

This should be written as a living story. Target length should be between 500-750 words and should incorporate strong visuals.

Fix email address right-click ability

The consensus on the call this week was that the contact email address should be right-clickable to copy the address itself, rather than e.g. a gmail URL. It appears (as far as I can tell) that we're still doing something in the CSS to break this. (This behavior might be different, depending -- I'm seeing the breakage when using chrome and logged into gmail in another tab.)

For comparison, try right-clicking the same email address in the comments at the top of #50 -- that's the way we were talking about making it work during the phone call. It should simply copy the email address into the clipboard.

Sponsors list for Get Involved page

Providing social proof through display of existing sponsors for the Get Involved page.

Open questions:
Who are the sponsors we're showing on the Get Involved page?
What content would we include?

Final Mission, Vision, Values statements

Provide the final copy of the Mission, Vision and Value statements. They'll be used in the About page (#17) as well.

Include condensed 100 word summary for search engine placement.

README: Describe branching for contributors

We used to have dev branch language for contributors in the README, but simplified it for the Nov 15th launch push. Need to dig that out of history, update, and restore.

Generate FAQ Content

What are the most important questions to ask?
Answers?

So far:

  • how do I get involved?
  • what kind of orgs/people are welcome?
  • what does membership get me?
  • Is NOM sponsored by the government, Whitehouse, or President?
  • What will happen to the NOM organization after Trump is inaugurated?
  • Can I donate to NOM, and are donations tax-deductible?
  • Can NOM help me start/host a makerfaire in my town?

README: Describe reviewer workflow

Add a section to the README, walking reviewers through how to set up a personal fork of the repo and review/accept PRs, probably something like:

Setup

  1. fork repo
  2. set github pages config so fork is viewable at https://username.github.io/nationofmakers.github.io/

Review/Publish PR

  1. pull PR branch to local, push to fork
  2. test, edit if needed
  3. push any edits back to upstream PR branch
  4. if no new edits were needed, merge PR to upstream master -- this will cause github to publish it on the public site
  5. if new edits were needed, get someone else to review/merge (can be original submitter if they have merge auth)
