mixed (but md5 by default), for auth throw launcher usually used follow scripts https://github.com/NC22/webMCR/tree/master/upload/MineCraft
For ex. auth.php :
Input data :
POST (string) user,
POST (string) password,
POST (int) version
Answer Success : (string) GAME_BUILD:depricated:USER_NAME:SESSION_ID:
where then you can run client with params SESSION_ID, USER_NAME
Answer Fail: Old vesion or Bad login
scripts with prefix 'x16' compatible only with official MC launcher v1.6 >
