nexus-mod-manager's Issues

Skyrim Special Edition (SSE) Active Plugins

SSE Does in fact run fine with 256 active plugins, however this now seems to be the maximum limit possible.

With 257 active plugins, it still runs but has complications such as: No player hair, NPCs unable to fight back and the screen glitching out by fading to and from black constantly. Anything beyond 257 will either fail to initialize the game or CTD once the main menu is shown.

NMM 63.13 falsely installing some mods.

I've recently went back to NMM to use with Skyrim Special Edition, and have found that some mods won't properly install. They will show as installed, but the files are not in the directory nor have any effect ingame. On restarting the client, the mods will once again show as disabled, and enabling them again does nothing save make it look activated. This issue seems most common with Texture mods that don't use ESP files, as they are simple replacers, as well as plugin mods that only add a dll file.

NMM 0.63.9 - NMM hangs if a new download is started while a FOMOD install window is open

Originally posted on the Nexus Site's Bug Tracker:
NMM 0.63.9 - NMM hangs if a new download is started while a FOMOD install window is open

Issue:

NMM functions normally when you start a download with a FOMOD install window still open. It hangs when you click on the 'Next' button to proceed to the next FOMOD step while NMM is in the middle of downloading the other mod file.

Game: Skyrim Special Edition
Mod with FOMOD installer used: LeanWolf's Better Shaped Weapons
Mod used for the downloading: Gecko's 4K Mountain Textures

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Download LeanWolf's Better Shaped Weapons (Main File)
  2. Activate and load the mod's FOMOD install options window but do not continue the install
  3. Begin downloading Gecko's 4K Mountain Textures
  4. While Gecko's 4K Mountain Textures is downloading in the background, click on 'Next' for LeanWolf's Better Shaped Weapons

NMM should then hang as the next FOMOD step comes up.

Images:

Notice the download still in progress (partially covered) behind the FOMOD install window when it hangs in the last image.

Window unsnaps when adding new mod

When a new mod is added via the "download with manager" button on the Nexus, the NMM window (if snapped) will unsnap. Currently using NMM v0.63.13 on Windows 10 v10.0.14393.

Security issue due to use of 7z 9.20 binaries

I decided to post this here due to there being few other places where this kind of issue can be brought to the attention of the developers. It has recently been discovered that 7z libraries prior to version 16.00 are vulnerable to many vulnerabilities with regards to malformed file handling and input validation. The advisory from Talos Security is here.

Although these latest vulnerabilities are somewhat more of a concern for mac users, any file format (including standard .7z/LZMA compressed files) can contain these file system images, and enable code execution at whatever privilege level the host application is run at, on any platform. This is a big issue for NMM since basically every mod is compressed (and hence, decompressed) via 7z within the program. Any one of the thousands of mods listed on the site could be harbouring an exploit to this - it wouldn't necessarily be detectable by antivirus or malware scanners if the exploit isn't inherently malicious - like adware or nagware.

I have replaced the z7 9.20 binaries in my own install of NMM with the 16.00 binaries and have had zero issues, but I have no idea if the API between these versions has changed, which is why I haven't attempted to update the codebase myself.

I'd appreciate if an active and knowledgeable developer could chime in on whether replacing the 9.20 binaries with the 16.00 binaries would cause any unexpected breakage.

Edit: Just to clarify, these issues affect every 7z library from version 4.59b onwards, which added UDF support.

Manager not allowing me to log in

For the past two days I have been trying to log into the Nexus mod manager, but every time I do I this error "Could not load file or assembly 'SMDiagnostics, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest. I've tried redownloading the manager, made sure that my firewall wasn't stopping it from working, tried using an older version of the manger, and I've tried restarting my computer. At this point I'm at a loss for ideas. I have used the mod manager before (about a year ago), and it was working for me fine back then.

Nexus Mod manager not responsive?

Hi, when I start the Nexus Mod Manager application, there seems to be a problem.

I launch the manager, pick a game, but when it starts to load, it becomes unresponsive, as if it were part of your wallpaper.

I know it has to be on my end somehow, because I've tried older versions, running with administrator, and installing different versions of Microsoft C++. The problem still occurs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does not start with Unrecognized Game Mode

That's very frustrating.

I uninstalled a game and now I cannot start mod manager.
It does not start because the game is no more. I can't change the game because I can't start the manager.

I tried looking for some ini in manager's installation folder and found none.
I tried looking for some ini in user\documents\nexus nod manager - found only tracelogs there.
I tried reinstallind the mod manager.

It sould be unnecessary to even do that. If a game mode cannot be recognized - take me to rescanning and choosing the game. Don't fuck everything up.

So my options for now look like a) uninstall the manager completely, loose the info for the third game, and install manager again, b) install the game back where it was in the past, start manager, choose new game, untistall the old game. Both of this options look crappy.

Unrecognized Game Mode

Nexus Mod Manager is not set up to work with The Witcher 3

If The Witcher 3 is installed, rescan for installed games from the Change Game toolbar item.

Mods are not updating.

I upgraded from 0.57.x and the mods do not update. I compiled the code from 6/22. Tell me what logging I can enable, or what to debugging I can do to help.

NMM incomplete mods

When I want to download new mod for Skyrim, in most cases (no all) it is incomplete and I can't repare it in any way.

Cant re-allow a mod

i accidentally misclicked and disabled a mod, and when i tried to enable it, it just did nothing.. i can enable other mods but not this one .. i know that some mods need the installers, but its not the problem as my NMM has been up for the whole day and nothing popped up.. in game it warns me that the mod is missing too. help?

[63.12] NMM Locks up (Not Responding)

Every time I try to Cancel the selected Download, NMM locks up. I can't even use task manager to end task because it still doesn't end task. Task Manager is showing it using (currently while typing this) 28.1% CPU & locked at 85.8 MB of Memory, but it's still not responding.

I have to keep restarting Windows to finally shut down NMM (I've done this 5 times, now going to be 6). So, I'll just keep this file listed in the Download Manager, even though my OCD screams at me to keep tying to cancel the download.

Error or Support for FAT/ExFAT

When I installed Nexus Mod Manager I didn't realise that it didn't support FAT/ExFAT, or I believe, any file-system without symbolic linking support.

Understandable I suppose, except that NMM gives no indication of this; in fact I happily downloaded and activated a bunch of mods, but only realised something was wrong when I restarted NMM and found some mods were deactivated, and later when running LOOT found that some had missing animation files (and in fact hadn't been installed at all). I've since switched to NTFS for my games partition, which has resolved the problem.

I'd like to recommend the following tweaks:

  • A warning dialogue when a game is located on a volume that doesn't support links.
  • Detection of linking errors during installation, as NMM should not report mods as successfully installed when they're not (and linking occurs can still occur on NTFS if the file-system is full, read-only etc.).

Now the actual behaviour is debatable; the obvious would be to simply tell the user that NMM can't be used on unsupported file-systems, however, I'd personally like to see copying used as a fallback if possible, with a warning instead informing the user this will happen (i.e- installing on an unsupported file system will waste more space). But since I don't know anything about the internals I don't how feasible copying would be to implement, hopefully someone who knows can comment!

Either way I think something needs to be done to make users aware of this potential issue; it should be easy enough to test whether a file-system supports symbolic links during the setup process I think?

Download progress stops with no error message, eventually reports incomplete

I am using NMM 0.63.13 with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, managing mods for Fallout 4.

When downloading a mod file, the download will stop progressing for no apparent reason. Both progress and download ETA stop updating. No error message is given. If I don't do anything the download eventually stops and reports it is incomplete; I can restart the download, but the problem will continue. Pausing and then resuming the download causes it to continue normally for a short time before halting again. By doing this repeatedly it is possible to fully download files which appear to work fine. The exact amount of time before it stops varies from almost instant to as long as a minute.

Profiles not working

I'm running Skyrim SE on Windows 10 64bit. I'm trying to create some profiles to easily switch mod configurations. I currently have two profiles: Base and Main. I change to Main, activate some mods and then save the profile. When switching back to Base, the mods which were activated (or deactivated) are active (inactive) in Base as well and the active mod count is changed. For some reason the profiles aren't saving properly on my machine. Tried running as Administrator as well. No joy.

Not sure whether this is an issue on my local system or whether it's a problem elsewhere as well.

TTW/nexus

ok i've installed tales of two wastelands but now i can't download any mods through nexus mod manager

Mods tabs too much space

the name/category/install date/etc use up 3 full screens of space. each tab has about 1/2 a screen of space.

dragging tabs to shrink them only gives the space to the next tab. so there's always 3 screens of tabs and reducing the tabs to 1 page just makes the last tab 2 screens long.

it also always resizes so the mod with the longest name will fit in the "name" tab.

Missing mods

Not exactly sure whats going on here but all my directories are right and my mods are in place and this is happening

Can't login to NMM

I'm logged in to Nexus Mod Manager. When I try to install a new mod in Fallout New Vegas, I get the message "Waiting for login attempt" When I try to login on the Mods page I get error message "Login error: Wrong username or password." It's not wrong.
My account was inactive for a year or more. I've made a new password. I've closed and reopened NMM. I've deleted and reinstalled Nmm. The computer has had a clean reinstall of Windows 7.

Do I have to create a new account? What will that do to my mod list?

Doesn't find / recognize XCOM2 directory / .exe

read details here:

Quote :
"A year later and I've found a solution that will work. The nmm is looking for XCOM2.exe but the file is called XCom2.exe
Chaining the file in from XCom2.exe to XCOM2.exe fixes the problem."

And it's not really clear if you should link "c:\somedir\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\Binaries\Win64"

or just "c:\somedir\steamapps\common".

The scanning doesn't recognize XCOM2 at all by the way.

A fix would be great. If you need a tester or something else, I would be ready to help!

Nexus mods wont connect to my skyrim SE

My game crashed a few days ago and i have tried everything i can think of to get the Nexus mods to be recognized on the game. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know because i cannot get it to work.

NMM doesn't recognise Fallout 4 DLC plugins as hardcoded to be always active

This was discovered by @pStyl3 while debugging a reported crash with the new version of LOOT (full conversation so far is posts #91 to #103 here).

The FO4 master file and DLC plugins are all hardcoded to always be active and always load first (if present, in the case of the DLC plugins), but NMM doesn't seem to know this and so if a DLC plugin is not marked as active in plugins.txt, it gets displayed as inactive. pStyl3 specifically reported it happening for the Nukaworld plugin, I don't know if it's just that one or any DLC plugin.

Doesn't always show which mods have updates.

There are some mods that are not the latest available on the site, but the manager says the numbers match. After downloading the updated mod, it still doesn't show the old version as being out of date. (tested with CBBE 2.2/2.3, and several other mods)

Not all mods appear this way.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention this was for Fallout 4 side of things.

Launch LOOT from NMM

When I launch LOOT from the NMM Supported Tools drop-down list, it always starts with the game that I last used LOOT for. Switching games in NMM does not effect the game that LOOT runs for.
When I launch LOOT from outside of NMM, I use shortcuts that have a "--game=" parameter.
Does NMM not support "--game=" parameters or do I have something wrong in my setup?
Thanks

Should be able to redo mod installer

Some mods come with special installers with user selections. If i install such mod once and then realize i did something wrong, currently it looks like i will have to delete it and redownload the whole file. If you disable a mod and re-enable it, it just uses same setup as before and does not open installer.

Mostly these sort of installers are only added to the biggest downloads on the site, like several hundred megabytes of armor textures etc. So i would imagine adding this feature could also potentially reduce nexus traffic a little bit.

And this is on NMM 0.63.11 with Skyrim SE

Nexus Mod Manager will not open

Nexus Mod Manager will not open after installing and I have tried finding user config but find nothing. I got nexus from their website (http://www.nexusmods.com/) but it wont work. I tried compatibility mode and tried running as admin.
I have .NET 4.5 or 4.6 installed and have the newest java.
I'm on windows 8.1, 64bit

Fallout 4: assets are not getting installed, and mods backup not funcions propertly

During installing of mods assets like textures are not geting installed - files are just not appear in the folder. Occured with Pip-Boy Flashlight 5.0.1. With manually copied files mod works OK.

Also I used mod installation backup to transfer my install to another game version. After restoration a lot of plugin files gone missing, so now I'm reinstalling mods one by one.

Occured at ver 0.63.13 updated above 0.63.1

NMM Deactivates Mods after exit.

I recently installed Skyrim Legendary Edition, and as I'm starting to mod the game every time I exit NMM, when I start it back up more then one mod has been deactivated. I can reactivate them...but when I exit NMM deactivates them again. Any help?

Incorrect dialog box when trying to close program while mod is installing/uninstalling

If you try to close the program while installing/uninstalling a mod, the dialog box asks you if you are sure you want to close NexusModManager, but the only option is OK, and when it is pressed, nothing happens.

The relevant code can be seen at

DialogResult drFormClose = MessageBox.Show(String.Format("There is an ongoing mod install/uninstall, are you sure you want to close {0}?", Application.ProductName), "Closing", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation);

I'm not familiar with c#, but I am guessing that
MessageBoxButtons.OK
has to be replaced with
MessageBoxButtons.YesNo

Then, this would match the MessageBoxButtons used here:

DialogResult drFormClose = MessageBox.Show(String.Format("There is an ongoing download, are you sure you want to close {0}?", Application.ProductName), "Closing", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation);

tsbOnlineStatus toolTipText set wrong

A very minor error I can't seem to navigate the code to where it's being set or I would submit a pull request with the fix. But before you even login the toolTipText says "Logout" even if you're not even logged in.

This is worse than the floating apple in Black Ops 1.

Mods not fully installing

I've had a few mods that appear to have been installed from looking at the main screen, but are not at all installed, or only half-installed.

A few examples:

  • Achievements - Nothing is installed, so it appears the mod isn't doing anything at all.
  • LooksMenu - One file is installed, but a couple other files aren't. Again, this makes it look installed, but not actually functioning.
  • LooksMirror - The worst of these examples - the mod appears to do something, but shows bugs that a player will report as bleeding obvious. As if the mod hasn't been tested even for a darn microsecond. In reality, it's missing files that are required for it to work properly.

I'm sure I can come up with more examples if I set my mind to it, but it appears to boil down to this one-liner:
It doesn't install anything other than a mod's "main file", if there's such a concept, and skips everything else.

I'm using the latest version of everything. You name it, it's latest.

Morrowind.ini not correctly updated

When adding or removing a mod with a plugin file, that plugin file is correctly added or removed in the Morrowind.ini GameFile list. However, when changing the plugin order, the ini file is not similarly modified. Instead, the plugin remains in the entry it had when it was first added.

I tried digging into the code to fix this myself, but I couldn't find where in the Gamebryo base that this is handled. If you give me a pointer, I can try to fix it myself.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Wrong Mod Title and Author SkyrimSE

When I install a mod with "Add mod from File" i get the wrong mod title

If i add "Autoharvest" NMM shows "Nocturnals Craftable Armor -CBBE friendly has been added" in Downladmanager and after installing under mods

"Bandolier - Bags and Pouches" becomes "Ravien - Queen of the Bolt has been added"

and so on

Deleting a mod doesn't actually delete it

I just deleted a mod from NMM, but its files didn't get deleted from disk. No errors or warnings anywhere to be found.

NMM is at 0.63.11
Game in question is Fallout 4 1.8.7 from Steam.
Mods in question are LooksMirror and LooksMenu. But I suspect these are irrelevant.
