Module Description

In this module, you will learn what version control is and how to use GIT. You will be able to install GIT, create a GIT repository, manage files, make a commit, list commits, undo a commit, create a branch, check out a branch, merge one branch into another, and resolve merge conflicts.

After completing this unit you will be able to:

  • Create a GIT Repository

  • Rename and Remove Files
  • Create and List a Branch
  • Check Out a Branch
  • Merge a Branch
  • Resolve Merge Conflicts

*Prerequisites:

Laptop with Windows 10 Pro, Education, or Enterprise*

  • If you are using a Mac, you need to dual boot your machine to Windows 10 Pro, Education, or Enterprise
  • GIT Installed Git Install Instructions

Creating a Repository, Making Commits, and Undo CommitsAssignment

Students can manually mark this item complete: Creating a Repository, Making Commits, and Undo Commits For this exercise, you need to submit two screenshots that show a commit being undone.

Submission Requirements:

  • Screenshot showing a list of commits before the undo
  • Screenshot showing a commit removed
  • Submit 2 screenshots within an MS Word document

Create a Branch and Merge Assignment

Students can manually mark this item complete: Create a Branch and Merge For this exercise, you need to submit screenshots that show your commits and the contents of a README.MD file before and after merging a branch to your master branch.

Submission requirements:

  • One screenshot showing a list of your branches with a new feature branch created
  • One screen shot showing content you create on the READM.MD file in your new feature branch
  • One screenshot showing the contents of your README.MD file before merging on your master branch
  • One screenshot showing the commits on your master branch before merging
  • One screenshot showing the contents of your README.MD file after merging
  • One screenshot showing the commits on your master branch after merging
  • Submit 6 screenshots within an MS Word document
