Drupal's Grammar Parser?

From a quick glance this seems to be targeted at PHP 5.2. It's hard to say much more without looking deeper into it, but some more differences I can spot:
The Drupal parser uses a manually written parser, instead of a grammar based one. In PHP's case this probably means that the parser will fail on PHP code that's a little bit extravagant. PHP has lot's of crazy syntax (that's also being used in the wild...), which is hard to account for in a manual parser. My parser is based on the zend_language_parser.y yacc grammar file that PHP itself uses, so it matches well with PHP.
Apart from that it also has a significantly different AST structure (e.g. it uses one node class for everything), though I couldn't say what is better (without sounding too biased ^^).

In any case, I'm closing this as it isn't really a code "Issue" :)
