I don't really know much about how all this Composer config works, but if I got it right the composer.json file of the using project can include a @dev suffix after the package version, so that a dev version can be used without lowering minimum-stability.

Just read this issue again and only now noticed that this is about PEAR and not Composer. Sorry about missing that earlier.

I modified my build script to use release-stability=stable in the future. I won't change the old releases though (I'm not sure that's even possible?)

Yes @nikic , it's exactly the problem I encounter. Impossible to upgrade to last 0.9.3 version with pear.

I hope you'll be able to release a new version, just in order to have a 0.9.4 stable version (even with no feature at all)

@jdespatis You can always install non-stable version directly via pear install PHPParser-0.9.3 (just needs to specify a specific version number).

Anyway, I just tried to do a PEAR release with stable stability, but it complains that versions lower than 1.0.0 cannot be stable :/ I guess I'll have to leave this at beta.

Indeed, I want to upgrade my phpDox 0.4.0 to 0.5.0 on a production server, so I just do pear upgrade

But it fails because of this error:
Failed to download nikic/PHPParser within preferred state "stable", latest release is version 0.9.4, stability "beta", use "channel://nikic.github.com/pear/PHPParser-0.9.4" to install

I could install a specific version right, but I prefer to use common pear upgrade command, in order to have the easiest upgrade process as possible.

I hope PHPParser will reach 1.0.0 in order to show it's stable :)
Indeed, I guess 0.9.4 is already stable... All this is just a matter of numbers
