Let me know what version of browserify you are using.
What happens if you use the bundled file (socket.io-stream.js)?

I am using a very old browserify version, v1.17 ... and I cannot update it for other reasons (stuck with a legacy app).
I see, that old browserify version has no support for buffers.
Should I add https://github.com/feross/buffer?

Just tested it with https://github.com/feross/buffer and works well! All good now.
