utox-update's Issues

Download uTox from own Server

Not really an issue but i don't know where else to ask
Is there any possibility to use tox update to download self compiled uTox versions from own server?

Thanks in advance

utox_runner fails on Windows

Hello,

It always raises this error (tested in two machines using different internet connections):

---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Error fetching latest version data. Please check your internet connection.

Exiting now...
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

And the log is:

compile using visual studio 2013

I am using visual studio 2013 to compile and was planning to make a contribution so I wanted to know whether to include the visual studio project file or to use mingw-w64 instead ? I will still maintain the ability to compile using any of them when using visual studio.

On Windows, if run from the zip file directly, the updater installs Tox into C:\Windows\SysWOW64

I ran (double-clicked) the uTox updater from the zip file without extracting it first. I believe Windows extracts the updater to some temporary location then runs it.

But the updater installs uTox into C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (at least on my 64-bit machine), and uTox, in turn, puts all of his config files there, making quite a mess, as this folder is normally reserved by Windows.

Suggested fix : Make the updater prompt where to install uTox.

uTox updater fails unclearly

Today, a friend tried to install uTox for Windows in C:\Program Files(x86)\Tox. uTox failed without giving an error message, leaving us confused for a good 10 minutes.

uTox should probably try to install somewhere by default without asking the user unless they want to specifically use another location. Aside from that, uTox should give a clear error message in case of failure, as opposed to only giving a message on success.

something seems to be wrong with the versions.

dl.utox.org/version returns 0.0.7.1 but when downloading and running the utox updater provided by tox.im the version file contains 0.0.9.exe, (yesterday it was 0.0.8.exe) additionally, at least yesterday it was impossible to get an audio-connection between the 0.0.8.exe and a linux verison compiled from latest git.

"version download failed"

I put utox_runner.exe in an empty directory, ran it, it did some stuff and closed. Couldn't read the output, so ran mintty as admin, just in case that changed things, and here is the output

mark@Sanguine /cygdrive/c/Users/mark/Desktop/utox updater
$ ./utox_runner.exe

I also tried running it in the same directory as the 64 bit µTox binary, same result.

I tried to compile but I stopped upon the fatal error no sodium.h, as I don't know how to setup the libsodium dependency.

I'm running win7 ultimate 64 bit. Can include any other requested information, unsure what matters.
