latex-koma-template's Issues

References to figures point to label of figure instead

When clicking a reference to a figure the screen is positioned so the label is at the top of the screen (link to top of label). This positions the figure outside of the view by default. This should not be default behavior. The default should be to position the complete figure inside the view (link to top of figure).

Proposed solution:

\usepackage[hypcap]{caption}

I would send pull request but I have no idea where you would like to put that command.

Problem with binding correction / laterality for Tex Live Version 2023

I just encountered a problem when copying a project from earlier this year in Overleaf. Although the page numbers and paragraphs were printed in center in the original document, they were oriented towards left and right in the new project (two-page print style). I did not change anything in the copied project.

After some investigation, I found out that Overleaf had switched to Tex Live Version 2023 since creating the original project and this is now used for the copied project per default since it was the latest version at copy creation time. You can manually switch to Tex Live 2022 in the dropdown menu of Overleaf as workaround, but there seems to be a compatibility issue with the 2023 regarding the binding correction. The warnings additionally state "Unused global options:" when using 2023 Version but there is no specification which global options aren't used.

Additional Packages

Hi,

I'd like to suggest some packages here which I'm using heavily:

  • siunitx instead of units
  • fancyref
  • listings
  • glossaries

I understand that you would like to keep this template as simple as possible, or that siunitx instead of units might be a matter of taste. However, if you would like me to add one of them, I'll create a pull request.

Extend Requirements section of README

Maybe extending the Requirements section of README to include the required packages would be useful.
In order to just compile it for the first time on Ubuntu I had to install texlive-bibtex-extra and texlive-lang-german. And there is not much about requirements in the Template-Documentation.pdf.
An optimal solution would be something like conda environment yml file or something along those lines.
But just extending the README with a small list of essential latex packages that one can install would already be a huge help. Or even a one-liner:

sudo apt install texlive-latex-extra texlive-bibtex-extra texlive-lang-german

Let me know if you like the suggestion. I could make a PR for the conda environment file.
And thanks for the template 👍

Overfull boxes

Thank you for this great template!

There are overfull boxes in the statutory declaration (the lines for the signatures extend into the margin).
Furthermore, the German version is shiftet to the right because "Graz, am" is longer than "Graz". Maybe it's also possible to horizontally align the English and the German signature blocks?

Please let me know if you want me to try and fix that in a pull request.

There are more overfull boxes in the Language and Writing Style section, but I don't really care about those :)

Another (simplified) template

Hello,

I m studying chemical engineering at the TU Graz, yet i m quite interessted in LaTeX. Still I - personally - found the given template rather confusing and therefore adapted it to my needs. In particular it features subfigures, a list of equations and a list abbreviations as well as usage examples.

If you are interessted I m willing to share it, indeptendently if you want to publish it or not.

All the best,
Niklas

Issues when using \myfig

A German comment was sent via email I want to add here:

Ich bin beim Umkonfigurieren und Einrichten für meine Zwecke auf ein
Kompatibilitätsproblem mit verschiedenen Packages und auf ein Problem mit
dem \302"\myfig\302" Makro gestoßen:

Das Laden des Packages \usepackage[sc,osf]{mathpazo} %% switches to Palatino with small caps and old style figures in typographic_settings.tex

Laut diesem
Artikel hier https://tug.org/pracjourn/2006-3/robertson/robertson.pdf
soll aber sowieso Abstand von überfüllten Makros genomen werden.

Todo: trying to re-produce the issue and find a solution or document the issue so that it can be prevented.

Create/Modify Language Switch

Hi,

I think instead of using the babel argument as language switch it would be cleaner to have "en"/"de" for the user to choose in main.tex as some kind of global language switch.

From a user perspective I usually want to change the language of the titlepage, the affidavit and all used packages at once.

Sure we could most likely just ifthen for the term ngerman,american, but this doesn't feel clean to me. I also didn't test if the comma would break the equality test of ifthen.

If you like this suggestion I could create a pull request.

Sharelatex Problem

Hey,

Since sharelatex is often used, it would be nice, if the template works also with it.
(Not possible to compile the current version)

Thanks a lot

extra white space in figure environments using `myfig` macro

Hi guys,

a center environment (as used in myfig)will always add white space, additionaly to the white space that is introduced with the float. Is this by design in your template, or by accident as this is seldomly wanted.

A little MWE for better understanding:

\documentclass[twocolumn]{article}
\usepackage{showframe}
\begin{document}
\begin{figure}
    \begin{center}
\rule{2cm}{3cm}
\end{center}
\end{figure}
\noindent\rule{\linewidth}{.4pt}

\newpage
\begin{figure}
\centering
\rule{2cm}{3cm}
\end{figure}
\noindent\rule{\linewidth}{.4pt}
\end{document}

The same amount of white space will be introduced above the figure if floating at the bottom.

adding textcomp to the preamble

See PR-comment from #25 (comment)

Also might be worth considering is adding textcomp to the preamble,
since using the default font that comes with the template produces a warning.
It could then be noted in the docstring that it's optional.
However I understand not wanting to include something that may be unnecessary for the user.
It could be seen as bloat, which is why it's not in this PR.

Comments or PR welcome.

Xelatex/lualatex support?

Does this template support Xelatex or lualatex?

Also, is continuous building using latexmk feasible?

Using Vietnamese in the document

How can I load the Vietnamese language, please? I tried to adjust \newcommand{\mylanguage}{ngerman,american} into \newcommand{\mylanguage}{ngerman,american, vietnamese} but it has a bunch of errors (302 errors), mainly from error with csquote and bib.

Modify margins

First of all: Thank you for this great template, it's really useful!

But I would like to modify the margins, because in my opinion they are a bit too large. My problem is, that I can't find out how to do so... Could you help me?

Thank you!

Hyphenation with german words containing umlauts

Hi, I do have a problem regarding hyphenation of words containing german umlauts:

I'm writing my masterthesis in german and some words with umlauts are not correctly hyphenated. I have changed the language order to \newcommand{\mylanguage}{american, ngerman} in main.tex and added \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} directly on top of the inputenc definition in preample.tex. With activated T1 I get ugly headings, is there a problem with T1 and the mathpazo package?

Without T1 I can't define manual hyphenations in main.tex for words with umlauts. For example "Gummioberfläche" is always hyphenated as "Gummio-berfläche".

What would be the best way to define hyphenations for german words with umlauts and not changing heading fonts?

Thanks in advance!

csquotes option clash

Hi there,

this is a really nice template. I appreciate all the work you've put into this.
i have a small issue with template though.

i'm trying to use the csquotes package like this:

\usepackage[babel,german=quotes]{csquotes}

and i get the error message:

./main.tex:linenumber:Option clash for package csquotes

when i use csquotes without options it is working fine, but then not showing german quotes which i kind of need ;).

would be awesome if you could help me figure this out.

Margins for two-sided printing flipped?

Thanks for the nice template!

I'm a bit confused about the page margins (left and right)with the twoside mode.
My understanding is that the first/title page as well as all new chapter beginnings (and any odd page numbers) should be on the right side of the book (when reading the printout).
This would mean that book's binding is on the left side of the page, which I thought, is what the larger margin is for.
But the larger page margin is on the right of the page.

I saw this is also the case for the example document: https://karl-voit.at/tagstore/downloads/Voit2012b.pdf

Where am I wrong? Or is this indeed a problem with the template?

Using APA style citation

First of all, thank you for this amazing template and the according webpage latex.tugraz.at. It is the best introduction around and I refer to it if somebody asks me about Latex.

I need to write some lab reports and they want me to use APA-citation. I am very new to Latex (except for writing half my bachelors thesis with it :) so please bear with me:

I installed https://www.ctan.org/pkg/biblatex-apa?lang=en by running tlmgr install biblatex-apa (I am on Ubuntu 15.10) and tried using it by changing \newcommand{\mybiblatexstyle}{apa} in main.tex.

As far as I understand this changes the relevant part in preamble.tex:

\usepackage[backend=biber, %% using "biber" to compile references (instead of "biblatex")
style=\mybiblatexstyle, %% see biblatex documentation
%style=alphabetic, %% see biblatex documentation
dashed=\mybiblatexdashed, %% do *not* replace recurring reference authors with a dash
backref=\mybiblatexbackref, %% create backlings from references to citations
natbib=true, %% offering natbib-compatible commands
hyperref=true, %% using hyperref-package references
]{biblatex} %% remove, if using BibTeX instead of biblatex

\addbibresource{\mybiblatexfile} %% remove, if using BibTeX instead of biblatex

When I try to compile it to a pdf it always gives me the error:

LaTeX Warning: Marginpar on page 4 moved.

scrpage2 obsolete

Just came here via TeX.SX.

Your template uses the (for a while now) obsolete scrpage2. Can you update the template to use scrlayer-scrpage?
