How to restore Apple TV A1469 to factory state (without jailbreak)

Jailbroken my ATV 3 (1469) 8.4.4 with the release 0.2 - without NitoTV.
Tried to restore through iTunes - but kodi is on the same place after restore.
Tried to rejailbreak with newer version - nothing happens.
Please help to restore to factory settings and will try newer release to rejailbreak.

ATV 3 (A1469) refuses to enter DFU mode

Hello,
I've been trying to use Blackb0x to jailbreak my Apple TV 3 (A1469), which is running 8.4.4, but it won't even get as far as entering DFU mode. I've tried holding down + menu for 6 seconds, 7 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes...no joy. I just get a spinning icon, the option to cancel, and the instructions for how to enter DFU mode on the screen (which is quite annoying by this point).

Can anyone shed any light on it?

I'm on a 2012 MacBook, running Catalina 10.15.7

Hi there,
So I have an Apple TV 3rd gen (A1427) running on tvOS 8.4.4 (somehow, the version displayed on the Apple tv interface shows 7.7, maybe due to the change to the tvOS name).

I have used an arduino UNO with the USB host shield and I get a positive result according to the serial output of the arduino.
But I don’t have any success with the Blackb0x tool, it often states « jailbreak active » altough I don’t see Kodi anywhere.
I had a few success where I see the software being downloaded and installed on Blackb0x after unplugging the cable directly after using the arduino but when I reboot the Apple TV, nothing.

i would be glad if you could tell me what I am doing wrong, or if my device is incompatible.
My goal is to have an untethered jailbreak.

How are we supposed to run the program on MacOS in order to jailbreak AppleTV?

Cannot compile

Wtf why there is no compiled binary? Xcode is throwing error on Big Sur and on Mojave:

No signing certificate "Mac Development" found: No "Mac Development" signing certificate matching team ID "E4V2A7WYY7" with a private key was found.

I spent a day installing xcode on a MacBook just to compile this and still the same error, i thought it was version problem.

What should be in manual about JB

I was struggling with feedback from devices when performing jailbreak so here's possible behaviour of them so it is clearer if everything going wrong or not.

(ATV 3,1 A1427, Mac)
0. Micro-USB cable should be capable putting ATV to recovery mode when connected to computer. AFAIK it needs only VCC, D-, D+, GND lines connected. ATV should show up in System Information - USB. On TV it should show picture with white wire. All operations can be performed with TV connected. WiFi connection on ATV is enough. Maybe if DNS settings altered on ATV, they should be changed to automatic.
Checkm8 can be performed with Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega with Keyes USB Host Shield (Blue) or "Arduino Meets Android " USB Host Shield (White). Software: Arduino IDE and it installs Arduino drivers. It was reported that you need genuine Arduino (with FTDI chip) but thats because maybe guys didn't have CH340 chip drivers for Arduino clones. It doesn't go with Arduino IDE but can be easily found (search CH340 driver).

1. Prepare strictly how Checkm8 author describes it and upload .ino sketch to Arduino.
   Connect micro-USB to USB host shield on Arduino, and Arduino connect to computer with USB. Open Arduino terminal, select speed 115200 baud. It will display message "Non Apple DFU found (vendorId: 1452, productId: 4737)"
   Checkm8 need ATV in DFU mode. Enter DFU by pushing MENU+DOWN on remote.
   When ok it will show

2. Now connect Micro-USB to computer. May need to power-cycle ATV because Blackb0x needs it in Recovery, not DFU.
3. Open Blackb0x.app It should show window with your ATV picture and model. Push that picture, choose Install Jailbreak, follow instructions on how to put it in DFU. Good situation is when it shows multiple progress bars like "Downloading iBSS", etc. It will successfully finish somewhere after "Uploading Ramdisk" and it will invite to reboot ATV and connect to TV.
4. Disconnect Micro-USB and connect ATV to TV and power-cycle it.
5. When ATV boots, it will show normal ATV interface with no changes. After 5-10 minutes screen goes black and ATV reboots. When it show interface again, you'll see NitoTV and Kodi icons next to Settings on the main screen.

Not sure where I am going wrong have been trying this all morning now with no joy.
I am running on my Mac big sur 11.4
My apple is Apple TV 3 running 8.4.4
I have ran the software on the Mac connected the Apple TV.
Clicked on the jailbreak option.
When I have used the down and menu button then the menu and play button until it flashes

ailbreak and I get the message o say its completed.Unplugged it and plugged into the tv and left for an hour and Kodi has not installed.
Also I have left it plugged into the laptop for an hour and I get no other messages on black box.
Please can someone point me in the right direction.

Jailbreak active but no Kodi after reboot Apple TV 3 (A1469) 8.4.4 OS

Hi, great job on this jailbreak, Ihavedone all steps until it shows the success message on BlackB0x app (Mac). After that I disconnect microUSB cable and then disconnect and connect OR power-cycle ATV3 and then I leave to start connected to my TV Monitor on HDMI and internet ok, but after many minutes (30) it doesn’t reboot nor it loads/show any NitoTV nor Kodi icon on main screen, if I run again BB app on Mac it says Jailbreak is active, so what else can I do?? Thx in advance

I installed the jailbreak (on Apple TV 3.2) and have Kodi and NitoTV, but when I click in NitoTV it takes A very long time to lead. I also cannot search for a package, because I get: Unable to read /etc/apt/apt.conf.d.
Also on Kodi I cannot find any installable plugins using the standard repo.

Apple TV not restarting

Why doesn’t my Apple TV restart after the jailbreak is done? It says that I need to connect my Apple TV to iTunes. I have an 3.2 with version 8.4.6

after a few tries, the jailbreak was done, and kodi appeared, but nitoTV did not appear.

I have some doubts:

1. Do I need to manually disable updates in order not to lose the jailbreak?
2. When connecting via SSH and sending update with the command "apt-get update" it does not connect with. the awkwardtv.org repo:

KVM incompatible?

Hello, I just heard from this project and I wanted to try it out in my Apple TV 3,2. Running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G14042) on a KVM based virtual machine.

The issue I'm facing is the inmediate crash of the application after entering into DFU mode, in which blackb0x will find the Apple TV, but will inmediately crash. Further debugging by using the terminal results in this:

Hi All,

First of all thanks for making this software would be great to make use of my old ATV3 box, unfortunately, although the jailbreak completes and then asks me to unplug the USB, connect the TV and wait for it to restart, it never restarts, i have left it for several hours.

I always need to resort to triggering a manual restart (i have done this jb 3 times, restoring to factory between each attempt)

Kodi update?

Is there a way to update Kodi? Currently the version is 14.2-Helix and not all addons are working on this version.

No Kodi, no NitoTV

After sucessful jailbreak and reboot I was waiting a while to see Kodi and NitoTV to be installed but none of that happened. After about 10 minutes Springboard reloaded but still no sight of 3rd party tools. Any idea how I can check what went wrong?

I habe downloaded on a mac with high sierra the blackbox app, connected my apple tv via usb klick on the apple tv and do the combination to enter dfu mode i think and then klick install jailbreak. when is the jailbreak done ? my apple tv blinks fast and on the mac there is nothing noted like install jailbreak or something. I can already click again to the apple tv and install jailbreak but nothing appears. what did i wrong ?

A1469 Try Again

I have the A1469, I right click on the app, open it, it tells me to put it on DFU Mode, I do and after like 10 seconds the screen changes to Try Again on Top with the same message, Hold Menu and Down. I do it again and it goes back to the same issue. I had restore it a few times with the same outcome. Any ideas? I have a MacBook Pro 2017, and I also tried with a Mac Pro 2010 with the same results.

Stuck on "Downloading firmware components"

After (successfully?!?) jailbreaking my Apple TV (A1469) I tried booting the device with Blackb0x but it got stuck on "Downloading firmware components". I presume I must be doing something wrong. What could it be?

What am I missing here

I saw the reports that ATV3 could be jailbroken with Blackb0x so here I am - I download the blackb0x.app.zip file, unpack it. I read the instructions for the 3rd time and even visit youtube for a tutorial since I cannot even get the application open. There is no "Jailbreak" application included, even a complete dipshit did a video on this Blackb0x jailbreaking a ATV yet doesnt even have one (smh) and claims oh its so easy....yeah if the application worked I'm sure it is.

When I´m on Homescreen there are no koi apps or into tv etc.

I am trying to make YouTube addon work with Kodi. I am using a compatible version with Kodi 14.2, but just like any other addon whenever I run the YouTube addon I get script error. Is there any way we can get this addon work, this can bring a new life to Apple TV 3 as official YouTube support has been discontinued for this model.

No iMovie icon after firmware update.

Hello. After first time jailbrake (about a month ago) Kodi and Nito was installed, but i didn't used that.
My main idea to jailbrake is just to install Plex.

13.08.2021 i recover AppleTV 3 by iTunes and it was updated to newest firmware.
After that i used Blackb0x again, and JB successfully.

So, due to Terminal replies of SSH the Pyton + Plex was installed successfully.

But the problem is NO iMovie badge available on ATV desktop or main menu.

My attempts to upload new certificated by Cyberduck or Apple Configurator also no success. Just no iMovie at all and i don't know how to run Plex on Apple TV

Is it possible to solve it, please? May i use another badge if iMovie was vanished? Thank you!
