nuand-papers's Issues

Remove bladeRF HW overview from FRS document

This was originally added to the document to yield a self-contained paper.

Once #1 is completed, I propose we remove this section. The bladeRF overview paper can be listed as a prerequisite.

Developing a Headless Application

The proposed paper should provide sufficient information to guide users looking to develop applications that can run on the bladeRF FPGA, potentially with FX3 and NIOS II modifications.

This should cover:

  • The list of required tools
  • Creating simple FPGA to RX and TX samples.
    • Detail how to hook these up and replace the FIFO Readers.
  • Modifications of the stock NIOS II image to handle interrupts and generate/process samples
    • This will require that we get the Si5338 code running in the NIOS, which should just be SMOP.

FSK modem tutorial with file transfer examples

This tutorial shall detail the design and implementation of an FSK modem in C, using libbladeRF.

This is a work in progress, pending the initial release of the code in the bladeRF repo.

Detailed Overview of the bladeRF

The proposed paper shall detail the overall hardware and software architecture of the bladeRF, including:

  • Detailed description of major hardware components used and references to their documentation:
    • Cypress FX3
    • Altera Cyclone EP4CE40/115
    • Lime Microsystems LMS6002D
  • Detailed description of software/FPGA architecture
    • libbladeRF
    • FX3 firmware
      • Usage of control transfers and bulk endpoints
      • GPIF for sample DMA
    • FPGA architecture
      • NIOS II for command/control
      • Blocks in programmable fabric
        • Time tamers
        • Correction blocks
